I have this effect and I know there is a lot you can do with this. Change one card to another, change for a dollar etc. I was wondering if anybody else uses this anymore and what effects do you do with this.

YES this is a great trick and can be used for other things. Brother Shadow has a book on this which at the time I don't have access to deditcated to tricks with this principal..He has a routine about Jack The Ripper and the inside paper is an envelope with a letter from Jack, get the book and make this up it is GREAT!
I will check later and post the name of the book. |

It's a very old wonderful Chinese trick. I had it in Shanghai China in 1939. Sure had a lot of fun with it as a kid! It's a real fooler and a snap to do! To bring back wonderful memories,I just oredered it from Gerry Griffin at California Magic.

The Buddha Money Mystery is one of those things that is so simple and so flexible, it's often overlooked.
In Robert Neale's "Tricks of the Imagination", he has a trick using this called "Nailed", about a gypsy who rips off her clients. In Docc Hilford's "The Confidence Man Video", he uses it as a lesson in how to avoid getting scammed. Back when I worked with Gerry Griffin at California Magic & Novelty, I used to demo this with Nickels to Dimes at the same time. I'd start by opening up the papers, putting four dimes inside, and closing up the papers. I'd then put a stack of four nickels on top of the closed papers. I would cover up the nickels briefly, and there would be the dimes! I open up the papers, and inside now are the four nickels! For those who have Buddha Money Mystery and Nickels to Dimes, this shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. The best thing about combining these two tricks is that you can present it like a small sub-trunk routine. |

I turn a blank piece of paper into a $1 bill. I then point out that the only "flaw" with the "Money Maker" is that it only makes single dollar bills. I then take the $1 and perform Visi-Bill to turn it into a $100 bill. After this bill is examined, I proceed into my Misled routine.

You might want to check out the DVD "Bill Abbotts Performs Close-Up For Kids". One of the effects uses the Buddha Papers ("Edwin Alonzo Boyd").
Description of the effect: "A riveting tale about a real-life jail break demonstrated with a photograph of the criminal that becomes permanently altered at the conclusion." A very nice story and creative use of this classic. This performance sparked some ideas for using a story about Harry Houdini. Don't be mislead by the title of this 2-disc DVD set. Most of the performances are NOT only for kids.

Scott,
Sixteen years later, thanks for the shout out and thanks for the “darned” clever Nickels to Dimes transposition presentation. Peace Docc |
