...what's happening with the Hermetic Press website? For the past couple of weeks or so, when I try to visit it I get the following message:

The Hermetic Press Web site is currently undergoing repairs. Anyone?
There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic

The site is working.

Only partially. Typing in www.hermeticpress.com gives the message. However searching via google leads to limited access via the "out-of-print" catalog and the "all products" listing.

I read recently here in the Café that they were recently acquired, so that may be why the website is not fully functional.
Don't have any additional information, sorry. |

Penguin Magic bought them.
So perhaps the site is undergoing a relaunch? |

I e-mailed Stephen on March 7 and below is his reply:
"We are in the process of transferring the Hermetic site to another server while rebuilding it on a more modern structure that will work with the current technology. I am hoping the new site will be active before the end of the month, but I’m in the hands of my IT friends and must let them do what they need to do. Stay tuned and thanks for writing." I checked a couple days ago and it didn't seem to be fully working just yet. |

I recently received an e-mail from Minch confirming that Hermetic Press is now in the hands of Penguin. The day to day chores of operating a publishing business gradually left him with little time to write the books we have been expecting from him. He thought it best to let Penguin handle the business end of things.
Minch is confident that Penguin will do a good job so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. |

I hope they do him justice.

Stephen Minch just posted a few words about the merge with Penguin:

I live penguin magic. There are many books for which Penguin offers lower prices than other distributers. I just hope they can bring back the real live lectures.

Looks like the books will still be available from brick and mortar shops which is great because that's where I like to do business when possible... Also great to see that some of the out of print books will become available as e-books!
