Scott,
Have you ever flubbed up a trick or misspoke or had an audience member do something that made you laugh and break charactor on stage? If so could you tell us about it?
The power is within us all...I'm just a little more full of it.

There are more than several occasions when I could barely contain myself.
Once, one of our onstage/backstage assistants came out to hand me the ring during a very serious levitation. He had on a long, Fu Manchu mustache made out of black gaffers tape. Even the audience laughed at that one... he looked ridiculous! In Vegas, they advertise some of the gentlemen's clubs with playing card sized photos of scantily clad women. They are always different and are usually funny (with little flowers or stars placed to keep her decent). These cards occassionally made their way onto or in our props at Caesars. So we'd be onstage in front of the audience and when a stagehand brought a table out, there'd be one of these cards on it. Always made us laugh never knowing where or when these cards would show up. One time, the act who's contract ended right before ours left one of these cards taped to the mirror in the dressing room with a note saying "Here's the number for my doctor if you need anything. She makes house calls." Funny stuff... How about you guys? What's your funny story? |

I was working in Johnny Thompson's show "Les Sorcery" in Reno. On closing night we all decided to have some fun.
During one illusion, The Cremation, we all walked on stage while the girl was (supuposedly) being burned alive in a casket... with marshmallows and hot dogs on sticks. I also stole Tomsoni's bowling ball and gaff and produced the ball JUST BEFORE HE WENT ON.

Closing nights are always fun. Closing nights can be sad and this silliness lightens the mood. I like not knowing what will be thrown my way!

Actually I just remembered that Dan Harlan got me with a good one when I was performing at The Casablanca Casino in Mesquite, NV.
During my OLEC routine, I place the bird in a paper cone to vanish it. The cone is switched for a duplicate, empty cone, which I tear to pieces to show the bird has vanished. This night, Dan packed the empty cone with feathers and something (I'm not sure what) that was solid, like the body of a bird. When I picked up the cone, I knew something was wrong. I questioned whether the bird was in there but I knew it couldn't be. So just in case the bird was in there, I tore the outside edges of the cone, figuring if the bird was in there I'd see it or it would just fly away. Much to my surprise, as soon as I tore the cone it exploded with feathers. Thanks Dan! |
