While going to college, I helped to pay for my education by doing kid shows and birthday parties on the weekends. What do you think is the key in performing magic successfully for an audience of kids?

A cattle prod and an iron fist always help...
In my opinion, you just have to enjoy being silly as much as the kids. Make sure that nothing gets broken, nobody gets hurt, and that you have some decent magic to show in-between the moments of silly madness.

Well after all I am a 38 year old kid
I just go out and get silly and have fun. I know the parents are thinking I can't believe a grown man is doing that! But ya know what? They call me back! You have to know how to gage the silliness 4-6 real silly 6-10 silly 10-13 a little silly 13 on up slightly silly mostly serious Because at 13 you hear this "I'm almost an adult I don't want to see a baby show" So they get my normal family show and I throw in some silliness to test the water. But ya know whats funny, When I do an all adult show I can throw in some of that 6-10 silly and get some big laughs. I guess we are all just kids at heart. Dan
The power is within us all...I'm just a little more full of it.

Keep It Short and Simple! Kids get restless very fast. Get them involved. 10 minutes or so into a show I will use a magic coloring book. It's simple. I have them rub color off their clothes and rub it on the outside of the book. All that movement for them is like a recess. Be ready with a lot of funny lines for the hecklers and know-it-alls. Act like a kid yourself and let them have all the fun they want. |

Just a side note... I was so pleased to learn yesterday that my one year old now thinks the Topsy Popsy Wand is hysterical.. This poor kid is in for it!
If you don't know what this prop is and you do kids shows.... shame on you! Pick one up from Denny, you can thank me later! |

Sounds like your little tyke is going to follow in his mama and daddy's footsteps!
There's so many things that make a successful children's performer but the one that stands out for me personally, is genuinely liking kids. The kids (smart little guys they are) know it! Chrystal |

That's right....if you don't like kids you might as well do mentalism !
