I'm looking to travel by air with my stand up act and need to aquire lightweight cases to hold my act. No Illusiond or aminals. They would be about the size of the Joe Lefler cases but not folding in half and would use them on stage sitting upright ( covered of course) to store props and ship also. Retractable wheels too. I checked some online road case sites without much luck. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a toughie. A regular ATA case will give you 40+ # of case weight alone. I have used fiber cases to ship with good success. Onstage is another mater.
Look on ebay for extruded plastic shipping cases. They are hard to come buy but they can be found. My main act case is 30 x 20 x18 and weighs about 12# with wheels. I think I have about $125 in it. New though it would be over $400. Also be sure to watch the maximum size on dimensions for flying or ups shipping. Here some sites, http://www.allcases.com, http://www.fibrecase.com., http://www.hybridcases.com, http://www.atlascases.com. Hope this helps. Richard Richard

Thanks Guys, I went to the Cabbage site and they look great, but rather heavy. I suppose you just pay more for the extra weight on the airlines?
Michael, no I won't make it to Reno this year. Planned to but things happen, like rent and food. It will be nice to be home for 4th of July weekend though. Steve I'll call you for Monday or Tuesday. Thanks Again. Pattrick

Cabbage Cases are good but expensive and heavy for flying. I checked out a case for my act it would have run over $300. If you are freighting stuff or big illlusions, they are much cheaper than Anvil. And the guys at Cabbage in Columbus are great with you need replacement casters or such.
I still think hunting on ebay for used plastic or fiberglass cases will be a better route.

Richard,
Just so you know Cabbage does make a lighter case - they are called lite flight cases - basically, the outer plastic is heated and bent into shape ( there is no plywood involved )- I use these cases for all my equipment that flies with me both domestic and international.

Also try Anvil Cases. Their website is http://www.anvilcase.com. I have a small Anvil case that I have abused for about 17 years and it looks just like new.

Hey Guys, The search is over. I went with Steve to Cabbage Cases with the drawing & measurements in hand and,( You won't believe this)There was one sitting on the showroom floor waiting to be sold, at a really great price. The Lite Flight Case is light, and will protect my props during shipping. We also got a tour of the facility, pretty cool. Check them out. Thank you all for your posts. Magically Yours, Pattrick Przysiecki

Glad you got want you needed and even better it was already made. It really is quite and operation that makes you fully appreciate what goes into a case. I had a similar experience when I went through Encore Cases in CA.
I think they were just starting to make the light cases when I last visited there. I have one like it that I go off ebay that was made by Hybrid Cases. It is ok. But I am not sure how comfortable I would be to fly with it. Richard

Flying with lite flight cases can be an issue - it all depends on how it is packed as well as what is actually in it ( Weight wise ) - your props need ot be tight and secure int he case.
Take the time to plan out exactly what you need ot have in the case when it does fly. I would never road freight a lite flight case !

Just a thought, depending on the amount and sizes needed (you could probably pack more than you needed, Hard sided golf bag carrier- locks, has wheels, lightweight, airlineable, etc. ii paid less than $100 for mine. (also a great way to transport swords without folks getting nervous!)
