Anyone have any experience with this version? Offered by Jeff McBride sounds great on paper but never seen it performed.
Reviews anyone? |

Randy,
Ive handled this item and it works great. The advantage over the other Fan-to-See is that Jeff's can be popped into appearnce with one hand. If you know the basic concept of the effect and want to use it...this is a fine prop. Recommendation given.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

Hi Randy,
I agree with Ed. I own two of these units and they are easy to use and very effective. You can see the finale pose in my avatar (display picture). Any more questions? Just PM me. thanks George |

Jeff demo'ed this at a workshop I attended. George is right about simplicty and great audience impact.
The only thing that kept me from purchasing on the spot was he ran out of items to sell. David

I have used three major versions of this prop over the years. I first used the original Fan-to-See for about a year. It wore out from use (and abuse) and I ran across the Kovari version. The Kovari version used really large (over 12 inch) jumbo cards made of very sturdy card stock (thick!). It was a tough beast, well made, easy to use and lasted for years (performing a minimum of six times a week). I went through several sets over the years.
Now I use the McBride version. It is well made, easy to use, and does the job beautifully. It is not seem as sturdy as the Kovari version (I have a 20 plus year old Kovari built fan and even after over a thousand performances it looks and works great). However, the real beating these things take is when they are in the case traveling to-and-from a show. McBride’s version works much easier (smoother) than the Kovari version. Of the two, I am using McBride’s version. McBride put some thought into his and it is truly easy to open. The only real downside is that he runs out of stock and it can take months for him to get new ones made. If you are going to feature this prop in your act and are doing a fair amount of shows, I would buy a second set for back up. After all, Murphy’s Law tells you that the prop will break just when you need it and when Jeff is out of them!

I'm sure the response to this thread will continue. However, thanks for the feedback thus far. I'm pleased to hear this one is well made. Like Murphy, I've played around with a couple of others that fell short of this one in terms of stock and ease of use.

Harry,
I bought two sets also! LOL I saw the prop and realised it would only hold up for a year or so of performance so I ordered another set straight away. My old set lasted for just under a year with my card manipulation act---I still recommend it though. It is by far the easiest effect I perform in my stage act. Just don't open it with too much force---you will understand what I mean when you receive the gimmicks. thanks George |

I have a set and they work great. You can see him use them on his DVD, "Manipulation Without Tears".

I also have seen and use McBrides version and it works really great. Another one I have that also is pretty good and worth looking into is Tony Clark's "Giant Production Fan" It is made very well and works good.

I attended Jeff's lecture in New Jersey two weeks ago. He did a demonstration of these and they definitely look like they are very easy to use. They looked like they were of good quality as well.

I also saw him do this at his lecture almost a year ago and almost baught them, but I came up 10 bucks short. I talked to Jeff about making a set on my own at home and he said it was ok. I went home to try and make a set, but I couldn't figure out how to prepIare the shape of the cards in the big fan, so I took a different aproach. To make a long story short, mine works the same way (for the most part) except mine goes from a small fan of cards, to a giant double fan (like the kind you do with a faro shuffle). In total, it cost me about 1 dollar to make since I already had a deck of cards...
Derek P.S. oh ya, but I would still get them, they are awesome and fun to use, very visual. |
