Hi, J.C.!
I wanted to welcome you to the Café, and to say hello, since it has been many years since last we saw one another. Jerry Camaro and I used to talk a lot about your work, and I spent a lot of time with another great bartender magician, Frank Shields, who always had great things to say about you. But you knew that! One of the things that I always loved was your revelation using the "Haunted Hank", "Glorpy", or whatever you want to call it. I don't remember where it appeared in print, or how many times it has been in print. Could you talk about the effect, and tell people where they can read it? How did you come up with the idea? Are there any touches that you've discovered, or adopted, since you first wrote it up? Do you still use it? I know it stands alone beautifully, but I wondered, have you included it as part of a longer sequence of "spooky" type effects? Thanks for anything you can share on this, it is a truly marvelous revelation, one that is, thankfully, overlooked by most... Best, PSC

Hi Paul, How are you buddy? Great question. The Glorpy routine in it's bear bones, was first published in an old Tallisman, issue #13 in 1970! Then I up dated it in 7-Secrects, 1978! It's the way I do it now over the bar. When I was at Magic Island in 1981-1885, I did it a little differently. Combined Mirco Mirco and someone else's idea of comming out with a poker size deck and changing it into a small deck. Then I would have a card selected from the small deck and controled top the top and then go into the routine from there. I would patter about a Flea named Herbie,( Roger Rittner idea) Herbie would find there card and then I'd make the switch for the Micro deck and finish with the deck back to normal. It worked out fine in a show room condiction but not so much for the bar, if you know what I mean. Hope that fills in the blanks for you Paul.
Best my friend, J.C.

Also you asked, How did I come up with the Idea? Well I kind of fell into it one time. I wanted to do a rising card using the Glorpy but could'nt come up with the method. One night I'm doing the Damm thing and I had placed the cards on the outside of the folded hank. I pressed on the gimick and guess what, a card fliped over face up! Walla, I had my idea. I found by simply placing some wax on the end of the gimick, I could get the selcted card to adhere to the gimick and the rest is History!

Pual, Check out Fabric Manipulation-Lynetta Welch's site here at the Café' for her New Glorpy Hank. I got one she made up for me special that's 20' square. that's the perfect size for my Glorpy Routine. The nice thing about her hank is it will Fold up to a very small square because the Gimmick Folds in half! I think you will like it if your thinking of doing the routine. That goes for everybody out there. What a Great improvement on a wonderfull Trick!
Best, J.C.

Great tip, J.C., thanks! I met Lynetta in Boston during this years' convention, and I can't tell you what a pleasure that was. If her work is as wonderful as her personality is, then all is right with the world! Lynetta is a charming woman who REALLY knows her magic!
I doubt that most folks have any idea the background she has in magic, the shows she's done, the people she's worked with! She brings a wealth of practical experience to anything she's involved in, so even thogh I don't own anything she's made, I have seen the work and I know a little about her background, and that's enough! I recommend that anyone looking for props that require an expert seamstress, or someone that works with fabric in any way, contact Lynetta and take advantage of her talents - I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Now that we have that "ironed out" J.C., can you tip the "real work"? You know what I mean - where do you get the trained fleas? Best, PSC
