Hi JC, nice to see you here!
I'm just wondering, there seem to be bar magicians of old such as yourself, Doc Eason etc. Who are the up and comers who are really impressing the legends like yourself these days? |

Steranko, There are a few out there that I have heard about but have not had the pleasure of seeing or meeting. One I have met is Frank Everhart Jr. down in Key West at Scooners bar and Grill. He's as good as his father or better over the bar and has a Great personality! You all know his Dad from Chicago who gave us "Sam the Bell Hop" so many years ago. I still use it till this day with Jumbo Cards so that every body can see whats going on. It's what we call in the buiness, an all bar trick! Bill Malone, who is a very fine performer and has put out his version of it, use's it every night at the bar! It is a Classic of Magic! due your self a vavor, and get it! You won't be sorry. Hope I've answered your question Steranko.
Best, J.C.

Hi Pete, frank and I knew of each other, but I never got to see him perform. From what I have read and heard from people who did get to see him in action, I really missed seeing one of the greats in bar magic! Very little of his Magic was ever published except what Jeff Busby did back in the 70's or early 80's. I wish I could have seen him in action. I would have learned a lot I'm sure. Pete, how are you? Have'nt seen you in years. We have met severel times on an off over the years at the Magic Castle. Thanks for joining in and asking about Frank Shields.
Best to you Pete, J.C.

Well, since names are being dropped and since I know that you know Bob Sheets (whom I have not met), let me drop one that did know him - Heba Haba Al. I had the delight of working with him for about three years behind the bar, on and off, at the old New York Loungs in Chicago, back in the early 80's and a little bit in the mid-70's as well.
Chicago, I know you are aware, was home to some great working close up people - the Schuleins, Okito, Terry Veckey, Bill Malone, Heba Haba, some whack-o named Tom Palmer (or was it Tony Andruzzi - he changed it on me in the 70's and scared the (*%$ out of the world with his character Masklyn ye Mage and also became one of my mentors), Jimmy "cards" Molinari, Jack Pyle, Dorney and a lot of other guys. Who were some of your Chicago friends and who would you say were the ones that really influenced bar magic the most? Lee Darrow, C.H.
