Hey guys,
Just a quick question regarding this illusion (which I know isn't released yet). But for those of you who have done the questioning already, is the bike that appears within the box a real bike? And is it true that it's fully self-contained and can be done surrounded? Thanks again, guys Yours Murby |

This illusion could be done with a real bike or a fake one (heck- could be done with a bicycle, a moped - anything that could reasonably fit in the box - doesn't matter) The concept is pretty straight-forward. I suggest contacting JC and asking him - although he's very busy he'll eventually get back to you. JC's a great guy.

Hi Guys,
Ryan is right! The bike can be real or fake but I give my reasons for using the one I use due to on and off-stage practicality issues. The size and design of the box frame is crucial to the deception and impact of the illusion. Due to how the prop is specifically designed and the performance is a choreographed, a (lay) audience will not be able to reconstruct the illusion after the appearance of the bike. Is ‘Full Throttle’ the most amazing bike appearance in the world? No, it is not. However, in terms of a ‘restrictive’ illusion (designed to play in the round/ full lighting/ close-up conditions, be self-contained and relatively lightweight for the scale of this type of illusion), ‘Full Throttle’ satisfies all the requirements to pull-off a ‘large-scale’ illusion practically anywhere without compromising the effect or deception of the appearance. It also does not seem to be too 'boxy' an illusion; like making a bike appear from a 'Tip-Over Trunk'. So, I dare suggest, that it is the most practical, strong bike appearance in print thus far. Full plans for this illusion are described in my new book, ‘Equilateral’ that features vastly different and advanced-level material from my first book ‘Illusionary Departures’. (It is not a sequel to ‘Departures’.) ‘Illusionary Departures’ featured a collection of original illusions of varied material. Many of the illusions were ‘presentation intensive’ with complete presentation plots that gave credibility, motivation and logic to the effects. My hope was to share my thinking behind the illusions and inspire greater thought in the presentation of illusions. ‘Equilateral’ presents a tangent off the illusion designs and presentations I detailed in ‘Illusionary Departures’. The illusions in ‘Equilateral’ are, for lack of a better term, more Vegas-style illusions - flashy and visual with strong impact points in the performance of the illusion. For more info, visit: http://www.illusionbooks.com/equilateral.html A special pre-order offer is available only till 15 Dec 2005. Pre-ordered books will be shipped on the 19 Dec 2005. We have had an advance look at not only Full Throttle but also the Equilateral book. I can assure you that it will be a must-have for every library.
J C has carefully designed & detailed working illusions for the real world performer. Not a collection of ideas or theories but a real in-depth guide for each piece J C selected for this book. Along with each illusion he details exactly how the illusion should be presented. He wants to be sure you have what's needed to give the best performance you can. Kevin

While we are on the topic, can anyone ballpark a cost for a fake Suzuki motorcycle. What are the options on something like this? Are there builders who make them at a good cost?
Thanks Jared |

Jared,
It would proably cost from 2500-7500 / Contact Willie Kennedy: He's a master at this sort of thing. This guy built a friggin' train engine in his back yard - totally amazing. |

I had an opportunity to work with one of Willie Kennedy's pieces one time. Simply unbelievable! It looked incredibly real, even close up!

Hi Jared,
In my plans, I also suggest what is the most economical way to go about getting the 'right' type of sports bike for this illusion and why. Another suggestion is to research on the style of bike you are looking for. I'm assuming you looking for a specific model/ year/ make of bike and a quantity of just one bike. Check the Internet, talk to bike shop owners, go to the scrap yard, look up sports bike communities and interact with them, bike modification shops etc. Any one of these sources could present an economical solution Good luck! Best, J C

Hi All,
My question is, does the magician appear on the motorcycle or does the bike appear by itself? Nigel |

The bike can appear with the magi, or assistant on it. I think it looks better as an appearance with the assistant....

I would like to test this out as the theory behind this is good, but in performance I am not sure...
