Hmm I could've sworn I saw a post up about this set. Anyway, it's just been released by L&L so I doubt you'll see any reviews yet. There's going to be more volumes besides the three already released. Check LLpub.com for more information.

I got the newsletter from L&L yesterday in the mail. From the looks of it, they are doing something similar to what Stevens did with their Greater Magic series and doing compilation videos.
I don't think any new material has been filmed for this. I could be wrong but looking at the descriptions, they are taking clips from all of their DVD's and compiling on to individual sets. They mention rare footage from the greatest magic video producers and thank Murphy's magic. It appears that they may have obtained the old A1 Multimedia series but again, I'm speculating. They are using a few Scotty York routines that I would imagine are from his old Silver Fox 3 vol set for A1. So it appears, if they are doing a coin gaff dvd, they will pull from the Doc Eason set of him doing C/S/B, from the Roth set of doing C/S and so on. |

I think this is an excellent way to find different ways to present a trick. I and as many Café members suggest to get several versions of a trick to create your own presentation or pick a good handling.
Well, this type of video will do just that at many times below the cost of purchasing many different full DVD's by different creators. It was a good purchase, when I purchased the Egg Bag Video from Stevens Magic. I found a wonderful way to make the egg appear magically. That was worth the price and I did not have to buy 3 or 4 sets of DVD's to find something useable. The Dan Fleshman Ring & String routine is worth the price of the Finger Ring DVD. I seen Dan do this in a lecture and it was a great entertaining routine. I will get this just to have him teach it again. I have his book, but he added a fool-proof move and I hope it is in this version. So, for $19.95 I will have several versions of a trick I want to find other versions from some of the creative minds in magic. A very good deal, the way I see it! |

I remember I had to hunt down 4 dvds by 4 different magicians to watch the Signed Bill In Lemon effect. It's a great learning experience for me, at least, to watch different masters at work. I'm really excited about these new dvds by L&L Publishing.

Hopefully I can shed some light. Louis Falanga wanted to provide single subject DVDs on various main topics (sponges, thumb tips, finger ring magic, linking ring magic, cups and balls, etc.) in a manner not previously done. This is obviously not a new idea but where it really DOES differ from what is currently available is that this is some of THE BEST magicians in the world teaching their top items for various single subjects.
The benefit to the end consumer is that if you should want to learn more on the cups and balls, as an example, it narrows down your research significantly. Isn't it best to learn this classic piece from Tommy Wonder, Dai Vernon, Aldo Colombini, etc. all on one reasonably priced DVD (I sound like ad copy LOL)? Louis contacted various other video producers (ex. Meir Yedid and Murphy's)and acquired pieces that he felt was important to be part of the series. In addition, a number of previously filmed (by L&L) but not yet released items will most likely be part of the series. Lastly, Louis also purchased for use some important historical footage. I have seen several of the upcoming releases and they are VERY VERY strong and worth being part of anyone's library. Literally any main "subject" matter you could want is covered in this series. The complete series is listed by L&L and all has layout has already been arranged. L&L also wanted to keep the price very affordable at $19.95 retail per title. Thus you get THE best performers teaching some of the best pieces in various subjects at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. Tim Trono |

Yes, I had made an inital post as soon as I got the L & L catalog asking if anyone had this, I was that interested.
So, as soon as anyone is able to post a review, bring it on! I am personally interested in the Scotch and Soda, thumbtip, cups and balls, and spongeball volumes. Regards! Mark

Hi Mark, I gave my overall thoughts and information that I was aware of about this series in a post above. I have been fortunate enough to see all of the material recently and all I can say is it is great. I am not sure what specific information you are looking for. But as an example, with the thumb tip DVD all of the existing sources on TT work were explored and the very best routines and handlings picked out wherever possible. It's quiet a range of effects and handlings.

Just saw this in the catalog I received in the mail. Sounds promising, and I thought Daryl's 8 volumes, and Vernon's 18 volumes were a lot! please stop with the enticement, or I will have to get a bigger house soon!
How long until all 27 are available? Will there a special buy for the whole lot?

Thanks for the update, Tim. I think the series looks very promising as well, and I am sure it won't be long before I will be ordering.

Hi Brad. My understanding is that 3 will be released every other month. I believe they are actually all complete but L&L didn't want to put out 27 DVDs at once.

Ah I see, so they want to milk out sets of 3 for as long as they can until they decide to one day offer the entire set at a discounted price.

Hi Brad. No, I don't think that is the intention at all. 27 DVDs coming out at once can be a bit overwhelming and I actually applaud them for thinking about the end consumer and the shops and not barraging them with one HUGE release... quiet frankly there are already enough DVDs coming out that spacing them out a bit is nice. It also allows L&L to tweak the DVDs from the feedback they received to improve the end product. I can't imagine they will offer some special price for all as it is already a pretty competitive price but I could certainly be wrong. It's certainly not been anything discussed to date and was not at all a factor in how they decided to release the series.
I think if you look at the amount of savings by having L&L already culled each subject onto single subject DVDs the benefit and the value will be readily apparent. If you wanted to do a sponge ball routine you can look at many many DVDs and videos but here L&L have already culled through their tremendous amount of footage of some of the top names (Steve Dacri, Daryl, Mark Leveridge, Eugene Burger, Frank Balzerak, Frank Garcia, etc.) and even recently gathered some from other producers to enhance each DVD. Again, this is an older idea and one various producers have explored but obviously L&L already has a large portion of the available footage by the top names in our field. From seeing the drafts of the whole series I consider these to be extremely valuable reference and learning tools. I just wanted to clarify this as I privy to the recent discussions and planning on these and the release of the series. Tim |

Thanks for the info. Guess I just prefer to buy entire sets in bulk, but I do agree that 3 volumes is more than enough every other month. Personally I just prefer not to deal with the mail so often, and get all my items at once. But I could always get them all anyway after their initial release.
