Contact juggling, most use acrylic since it is light weight. There are plenty videos on it, penguin magic is coming out with one soon.

That's an art known as Contact Juggling. You can find more info at contactjuggling.org

There are a couple of good videos on this subject. You can find some at Dube.com

Oh, by the way the balls that are used are usually an Acrylic plastic which look exactly like a crystal ball but they are a good deal lighter and slightly more forgiving on a drop.

At one point in his career Fred Kaps did some magic with clear balls. Take a look at the excellent "Fred Kaps - Seeing is Believing" DVD.

So is this juggling or manipulation? From what I have heard it seems more like manipulation to me..

Sounds interesting none the less.

It's juggling, because contact juggling requires a degree of patients and skill that only a juggler has. Did you ever notice that jugglers are not particurlarly interested in rubber band magic, but at every juggling convention you see people showing off their "boomerang rubber band" skills, and the reason is magicians are primarily interested in the effect, and jugglers respect those effects that demand a higher level of skill or challenge.

I have to agree with Al. It is juggling. On the other hand, when Jim Henson was making Labyrinth he used Contact Juggling in it because he thought it was the most magicial looking thing he'd ever seen. So, is it juggling or manipulation, by definition, juggling is the manipulation of objects. But to the people in this forum these are mutually exclusive things, so I would put it on the juggling side.

The bigger the easier, so why not a basketball. I started with a 4" plastic stage ball.

Also the dvd by Greg Maldonado, Owen Edson, Gavin Kroeber is this all about one ball or does it teach multiple balls too?

That 65mm should be a good size to work with. I don't really know how big of a guy you are, but a little bit heavier ball is okay to work with. that's the nice thing about acrylics, the carry momentum nicely. To heavy is bad, because it won't go when you tell it to.
I started with stage balls. When I was in college I would CJ oranges, baseballs or whatever I could get my hands on. now I work mostly with acrylics.
I stated earlier that I think that contact juggling is juggling and not manipulation (in the sense that people here at the Café' think of it). The reason I lean that way is because it was predominatly developed and used by jugglers up until very recently. In my humble opinion XCM is closer to juggling then it is to magic but, using that same logic, it was developed and used by magicians, therefore falls into the magic side of things.
Happy juggling (and magic...ing)

I have ordered a 70mm, it cost £25 is that good?
also do you think 70mm will be ok for a beginer, I can do butterfly, around the world, roll it along my arms etc. but that's it,
