Hi Everyone, Greetings from Ireland,
I am quite new to magic but since I have taken it up I have become absolutely addicted. I only do children's shows and at the moment I am looking for a good routine for Run Rabbit Run and Hippity Hop Rabbits. So, I thought I would ask the experts. Any tips would be appreciated. Best wishes Pirate Pete

Hi Pete,
Run Rabbit Run and Hippity Hop Rabbits are both what we call "sucker tricks" and although a bit different, looks like the same effect to a lay audience. My advice would be NOT to do both in the same show. As for a routine, I have Hippity Hop Rabbits and would be glad to email you my routine. Just let me know. Hope this helped. Have a Nice Day, Don |

hipoty hop for me has shrunk down to the close up version - even for kids. It is just so much easier to "shlap" em around with me since I have created a smaller "props" show for entertaining up to 30 children. It goes down just as well although that much less visible from the back row.
Run Rabbit Run - I have turned it into kind of a story about a young rabbit whom, every day goes to visit his grandma after kindergarden hours (the house being his grandmas). He likes to go in through the back window to creep up on his grandma and when she least notices he shouts "BOO" and scares the living day lights out of her. (when I do this, I speak very, very quietly to the kids telling them that grandma might be asleep and when I "boo" all the kids actualy start laughing their little heads off. I once read that people will usually laugh after a somewhat "scare" - this is true and can be incorperated with even the very little children - it will not make them afraid because it is only part of the story!) I then continue - Today it seems that grandma is not home and so I ask assistance in doing a magic trick and make the little rabbit return safely home to his "top hat". I put a "red indian" feather hat on my head and play the part of an indian dancing and chanting to do the magic - but no success, the rabbit is still their inside the house. I then put on a pair of jumbo rabbit ears and pretend to be the little rabbits dad but he is so angry with his little son because he didn't even tell him that he was going to his grandma - "dad" says he doesn't want to help - "My son went on his own - he'll come home on his own. "What a nasty dad" i say. Finaly I put a pair of grandpa glasses and a false beard and I play the part of a wise proffesor who has the answer to all questions - he tells me to get the kids to say magic word and with the help of the audience the magic will work. So - i get the kids to say the words and then starts the fun of the rabbit going back and forth and peeking out the side etc. until eventualy he does vanish and return safely home. Obviously this is a tried and tested and not to mention personaly created routine. All the acting of parts is great. You could substitute them for different characters or even dress the kids up. Their is suspense and plenty of humor and entertainment in this routine both because of it's visual and somewhat toy looking props and also the incorperation of a story that eliminates the "suckerness" - The proffesor suplies the answer and the kids do the work. So there is plenty of involvement from the whole audience. Try it! |
