Does anyone take part in any of their insurance programs? I am most interested in their Liability Insurance provider, and the Health Insurance, now that I am officially, 100% full-time, with no back-up job to rely on insurance from.
Any feedback concerning service, coverage, cost, etc. would be appreciated.

I joined for the liability insurance but never purchased it. I know its on an August to August time frame and it use to be $110. I just try to be careful and not do things they show on TV without a warning up front (TV shows always dangerous, even cartoons).

Hello JM,
I have used the I.B.M. group Liability Insurance for many years. It is a grade "A" rated carrier. It is a comprehensive General Liability Form with $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 per event aggregate. The I.B.M. membership cost runs from $111.00 a year on up depending on how much money you make performing magic. It is sweet deal. I have never found a better program. If you are working as a magician and or getting paid as a magician you would be smart to have insurance. You never know what can happen during your show and some one will want to hold you libel. Candini,
Even warnings up front won't protect you mate. For the $111 that it will cost most members of The Magic Café to acquire, it's flat out ridiculous not to have it if you're performing. Robert

An easy way to get the latest on the health and liability insurance information, along with a description of all membership benefits is from the IBM website at http://www.magician.org in the "members section"

HI Jesterman,
As I said above, "It is sweet deal. I have never found a better program." I will continue my personal view. If you shop around as I did several years ago you will find just how sweet a deal it is. Liability Insurance is very expensive and the I.B.M. group rate is a big money saver. Service? I don't know of anyone who has called upon them for defense or to cash in on their insurance. That is way I like it. I don't want to ever need their defense only their insurance. I like to play it smart. Avoid all possible law suits. I can say they are helpful in the office about sending out copies and riders. I can not speak about the health care insurance. I will check into it and find out more. Steve Hart

The health insurance is on a case by case basis, there is no number set in stone. It depends on your health history, and your medical needs, age, etc., just like most other health insurance plans.

I'll chime in here on the group liability insurance. Over the years, I had my professional liability insurance in order through Clowns of America, SAM and now I.B.M. I started with the Clowns of America's policy because neither the SAM nor the I.B.M. had group liability insurance at the time.
When the SAM first started offering a group liability insurance, I switched to it. (Primarily because it sounded better. I don't do any clowning and I thought it looked strange to show a Clowns of American insurance card!) A few years after the I.B.M. added their group liability insurance, I switched to it. I had become dissatisfied with the SAM's insuror. They were taking longer and longer to get me proof of insurance. The last year I was with them, they sent me a letter as proof of insurance rather than a certificate of insurance, which was aggravating. I work part-time as an insurance agent (my best friend's agency) so I wanted to read the SAM's policy. I requested it by phone and did not receive it for many months. I called back and they said they were still waiting to put it together. I finally got the policy just before the coverage expired. As a licensed insurance agent, it really frustrated me to wait so long to get it. The I.B.M.'s policy is through Clarendon National Insurance, a company I am familiar with and comfortable with. The rates are very reasonable. Getting a professional liability policy on individual basis can be very expensive so this is a great alternative. The cost is based on your gross income, which is how most liability insurance is rated. I hope this is of some help. Michael |

I just signed up for the liability insurance through the World Clown Association (www.worldclownassociation.com). The fees were: 1) Membership $25 2) One time new membership fee $7.00 3) Liability Insurance $125.00. I went with them because I needed to get it quickly. Anyway, I faxed over the application this morning and had the insurance certificate back 3 hours later.

Liability insurance is a great deal. I think you will find better health insurance at a better price.

I just received a mailing from K & K Insurance Group from Fort Wayne IN. It offers liability insurance to Entertainers & Performers. Basically, $1,000,000/Occurrence/$200.
Does anyone have any knowledge of them? |
