Hello All:
I hope to save you from the disappointment I recently experienced. I ordered display silks from a couple of reputatable dealers, and the quality of both was horrible. There were many runs in the silks, uneven screening/printing, and blotches all over. Both silks appear to be new - just terribly made. The American Flag I got looked so bad, it would almost be disgraceful to display it. Both silks have a little sticker on them that says they were made in India and imported into the U.S. By D. Robbins. So, my advice would be to check with a dealer before ordering - ask if the silk is made in India and Imported by D. Robbins. Those of you who have bought wholesale from D.Robbins probably know that just about all of their Indian-made props are poor quality, so this is not a surprise. I hope this helps. I should've known, but got suckered in on unbelievable prices. Now I've learned that you get what you pay for. Ron |

Same here, Ron, I bought some silks that ended up coming from India and they were terrible. They run and strip out very badly. Always ask where they come from or deal with someone like Bob Sanders, Richard Hughes, Duane Laflin (now Lock Family Magic), Rice Studios, or P&A Silks and you won't go wrong.

I won't even get started on my tirade on Indian made magic items. Sorry about the bad purchase Ron. You're not the first it's happened to but you'll now be in the habit of insuring you know who the manufacturer really is.
Last year I trusted a big dealer on several 36" silks at rock bottom prices. They weren't badly dyed but they weren't chinese silk quality either! They were all more like 36" table clothes. Oh no! no! no!... Returned everything postage paid despite the 'all sales final' and told him to make up his mind and either refund the purchase or keep the sheets for cleaning his counters on me. It took a couple of months but I saw the refund. Check with Bob Sanders for advice on these matters or better yet, just order direct from him. Also never forget Rice Silks for the undisputed quality. While true that you get what you pay for, once in a very very long while, you can get far more than what you paid for but the other 99% of the time, well... |

I agree with you both - P&A, Silk King Studios, Laflin, Bob Sanders, and Richard Hughes are all solid and none would ever be caught selling this stuff. I don't want to mention names of dealers, but both companies I bought from are well respected - I don't think I've ever heard one bad thing about either company. They should know better - or maybe they don't know unless they hear.

Oh and to clarify, I did not buy these awful '36" TABLE CLOTHES' from P&A, Silk King Studios, Laflin, Bob Sanders or Richard Hughes.
No matter how good the deal was, therein lied the problem, now you know the rest of the story. |

And remember, silkmagic.biz only sells the fine Chinese silks. (AKA Dovelite).

Hi Rick:
Does Dovelite sell a 3 foot by 5 foot American flag silk? I think I was on your website and did not see a big one like that. Rebecca at Lock Family (Laflin) says they'll be out of stock until the end of the month. Ron |

Ron,
Unfortunalty, no, the biggest American Flag silk we have is the 36 inch width. I'll talk to the Dovelite wholesaler about it and see if he can come up with something. Rick |

I bought a few silks a long time ago that came from India and the quality was not very good. A couple of them were printed decent, but the silk was not durable at all.
I'll have to say though, for the price I paid, it was about what I expected to get. That old saying, "You get what you pay for", really is true most of the time. Regan

DoveLite has stayed away from the 3'x5' American Flag to avoid having our silk products from China confused with the one from India for the appearing flag staff. If you find someone selling the appearing Flag Staff from India, they should have a source of refils. That trick and prop is referenced somewhere else here on The Café. (If you do perform the trick, and it is a good one, you soon realize that refils are very necessary.)

Update - I have sent the American Flag back to the dealer for a credit. Rebecca Lock (Laflin Magic) recently got the giant American Flags in and I ordered one. I received it today and it's beautiful.
Funny thing is that both silks were the same price. I'm glad to see that Rebecca is continuing what Duane and Mary started. Lesson Learned: Only order silks from reputable dealers like Lock Family Magic, Bob Sanders, Silk King Studios, P&A, Richard Hughes, and Dazzling Magic. I hope I didn't forget someone. Ron |
