PS: I don't know Scott's take-off on my original 10-Card Poker Deal routine. He never sent me one. Can anyone tell me the difference? hl (You can email me personally - to the email address under this post.)

Hi, Harry! The difference is mostly presentational. I sent it to you once--must not have gone through. I'll send it again.

I wasn't particularly impressed with Luke's version, it looked like it was a product that was rushed through and not well thought out. A good effect but there are definitely better versions than Luke's.

I have to agree with big dan.
After watching the DEMO, there seems to be better ways to do this. With out exposing the method regarding the J**** card, couldn't Luke's routine back fire? Even if you know where it is, they might get lucky. |

I believe it uses the same principle as the old 80's marketed trick called "ultra poker deal" with jumbo cards. Either way, I still downloaded it because luke jermay is an amazing teacher.

I'll take Nick Trost's version.
I'm sure Luke is a nice guy, but he's a little late to the party on this one! |

Yes he's late, but he has introduced this to a whole new generation who somehow believes video is better than books. For as long as this has been around, it's new to them.

That's right, Kannon. And sometimes when you want the book, you have no choice because the book is out of print.
How many times do I see someone at the café refer to an effect on page 36 or so of a magazine or book from 1968 ? Well, I don't have that book ! I'm not a librarian .... Frans |

I agree that video is a good enhancement to learning, especially where timing and misdirection is concerned as these elements are hard to get right just by reading. My problem is the trend toward new magicians thinking video is the ONLY way to learn, and not even knowing of the work that has been done before. I'm waiting for someone to say "Jermay's 10 Card Poker deal" as if somehow he invented the effect.
Kannon, Let me know how you like "Refried." I think it's a great addition in the right setting. If you're doing Jermay's three stack setup, this would be a great finale for the third phase. fvdbeek, I'm no librarian either, but it's amazing what's out there for those who look hard enough. Strangely enough, I have Buckley's 1946 book on my shelf where this trick first saw print. It's also available as a Dover paperback. I think there are earlier references as well, but this seems to be the one most people have access to.

It makes for a nice finish with a contrasting presentation. I think perhaps it should be priced at $5, but then more people would know it I use two routines, Jermay's and Bernstein's Psyche-out. Haven't tried it inconjunction with Psyche-out, I don't think it'd work to be honest. Additionally: A few people seem upset by a few moves, seriously its a simple (basic / early intermediate) move and if you don't like the alternative ... their is another easier way of doing a more convincing, imho, alternative, those interested need just PM. I only JUST discovered Genii did this. Fantastic.

I too use Psych-Out and I agree, the two don't work well together. It's nice though to have this as an option if the opportunity presents itself.

"New"? Is this different than the one he released last February?

Not poker related, not directly anyway. I think it's new I don't check their regularly. It was a false shuffle discussion, nothing new apart from an interesting waterfall cascade shuffle.

Oh, okay. I was just wondering if he had any references or history on the 10 card routine, and why he chose not to mention it in the obvious place, that being his own product by the same name.
Just trying to tie up loose ends in case I missed something.

I have since sent Harry a copy of my routine. It's really nothing like his--his routine got me thinking on the plot--it was the jumping off point.

Here is another good reference to more ten card poker stuff that includes references to Bruce Bernstein's Psych-Out, Ortiz's AT THE CARD TABLE which contains Mexican Poker, R. Paul Wilson´s ebook: Refried Poker, Lorayne's work in the Deck-Sterity section of LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, and even Bannon's one phase poker deal called THE POWER OF POKER:
