Denny,
Something Lindy and I view as a serious issue in the magic community as a whole is (ethics) on-line magic videos. During the past month we (MAGICTAINMENT) has started to campaign / boycott several "magic" shops who have refused to take their on-line (explanation videos off of the Internet. One well known company had Dean Dill's "Blizzard" trick available for a demo ALONG with the entire explanation. Several Jay Sankey effects accompanied by the how to video. Another "magic" shop owner has several demos showing users how to "perform" several tricks like "The bubbles and the pen through dollar bill. Their response was almost unbelievable to us, as they feel like they are doing the magic community a favor by showing how to videos. A couple of the responses we have sent to these "magic" shop owners have been the following points: 1. We have several friends who perform these (professionally) I have witnessed first hand, a couple of them performing these affects in their "live" children's show (they are very good entertainers like us, they are full-time). During their presentation of the routine I have heard several children and on more than a few occasions I have heard adults voice their comments -which as you know, is normal in a children's show (..."I know what you did"..., etc), but this is what I am starting to hear more and more..."the trick is performed by (they call out the actual secret)...I watched this on the Internet on how it is done"... 2. Plus, it gives "permission" to the younger, up and coming magicians to share their "talents" via-on-line video. They see pros (magicians they look up to for guidance on what is proper and what is not) present their version of an effect and they too want to do the same...the problem here is two fold. A. The younger less experienced magi, un-knowingly reveals the "trick" just by performing it on the video, due to their lack of experience. B. Allot of the magic “tricks” that are being performed / exposed on-line are being filmed and available for the general public to view. This is where (the lack of) ethics comes in. Most of the “tricks” being filmed and or revealed do not belong to the performers, they do not have permission to film and share them with the world...we see this as an issue. Denny, will you please give us your thoughts on this topic. On most occasions Lindy and I feel very alone with this subject (even some of the "pros" have turned to earning more money by knocking ethics out of the way), though we will continue to stand by our beliefs and attempt to up-hold the ethics card, it is good to get a "real" working pro's input on this "hot" subject. Thank you, Click here to view attached image.

Dear David:
I remember when Key-R-Rect was exposed many years ago and it was a staple in my close-up act. I immediately took it out. With that being said, how many times have we been fooled by the clever use of the thumb-tip, linking rings, etc. I agree with you, just don't know how it can be stopped.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

I believe that online videos are not bad. The Internet is a great place for magicians to gather and share ideas. I may be criticized for saying this, but I BELIEVE THAT THE INTERNET IS THE NEW WAY TO GO FOR MAGICIANS TO LEARN MAGIC. The thing of the manner is that videos, though how profitable they are, are too available to the public. I am a member (and on one a moderator) of several online communities where we are dedicated to sharing the art of magic. However, NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR OUR REASONS FOR OUR ONLINE COMMUNITIES. One of the communities even got shut down for a while because of a greedy magic dealer (no names). This is just my view on magic, and I am not going to change it.
