Hello,
I know Masuda has some great stuff, especially WOW. I have also read some of his items look great on the demo but are very impractical for most people, for example Useless Resistance. I haven't been able to find any information on the forum about X-Zone though. The demo looks incredible of course. If anyone has this would you mind giving your opinion on it? Thanks in advance. Here's a description of the trick:
The magician takes out a deck of cards that look quite strange. A red deck of cards inside a red card case is crossed by a blue deck of cards. He pulls out the blue deck and proves it to be a full deck. Then the performer pulls out the red deck from the case, which also turns out to be a full deck of cards. NOTE: This is meant to be more of a puzzle than a trick. So what's the puzzle? Think about it. If you stack and intertwine two decks of cards together, the thickness of the stack would be too high to fit inside a single card box. How on earth can an entire deck of blue cards be added to a deck of red cards and still fit within a card box? Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdZoADCbE80 |

That premise is old, although Masuda's particular solution may be new.

Looks like a "puzzle" with a long set-up time.
How is it diffrent from crossed cards ? I like the looks of crossed cards becouse you push the deck WITH the box. |

I may be wrong here but I'd say that it is different from 'Crossed Cards' because with 'X-Zone' the blue deck is still out of the crossed box when the red deck is removed.
I seen it demo'ed once but is it not the case with 'Crossed Cards' that a blue deck is removed and a card selected. The blue deck is then placed back inside the crossed box and THEN the red deck is removed? So, at no point in time are two decks ever seen in play at the same time with 'Crossed Cards'. In this Masuda version two (what appear to be full) decks are clearly removed from the crossed box and both remain in play. I'd say that ups the ante a fair bit. Clever stuff again from Masuda! Dave.

Oh, and I might add that should anyone be interested in removing two decks of opposite colours from an ordinary, un-crossed case then my very own 'Double Decker' does exactly that. There is a video demo on my website. The demo shows a very basic effect - the manuscript has other (better) ideas included!
Dave.

I think I saw Crossed Cards demoed a couple of years ago. If it's the same effect, you definitely cannot remove one deck and then the other. It's still a nice effect, though.

This is not the same as crossed cards which only uses one deck in play at at time. This is different because two decks are removed and seperated from the cross. In crossed cards the boxes remain linked and only one color deck is taken out at a time.

Can you take the blue deck out, then the red deck out, just like in the demo, and then follow on to use the blue deck and red deck for some full deck card tricks?
It would be awesome if it's possible. |

X-Zone works differently from any "crossed deck" type trick I've seen. When you see it, you will realize why it is so expensive. It must be VERY labor intensive to actually make. However, be warned that it is also quite fragile. The first time I did it, I saw five or six tiny little pieces of card on the pad. The trick still works okay, but if enough pieces separate, it won't, so be very careful if you buy one and read the instructions completely before even trying to remove the deck. I would compare the cleverness of the method with Rob Bromley's Deck Penetration. The thinking is similar, although the mechanics of the two tricks are not.

Oh, and no you cannot do a trick with the deck.

Thanks very much for the info. Guess I'll have to pass on this as I wish to be able to do card tricks with it.
I almost bought it a while ago, but put it off due to the cost and lack of info. Luckily I'll stick with Criss-Cross Cards which is similiar illusion but instead of the specs seeing 2 crossed deck of cards, they see 2 crossed card box. The only down side is you can't show two decks at the same time or let specs examine the box. |

I bought it in Japan but never performed once.
First, you can't use the deck to perform. Second, the reset is so troublesome. As a puzzle, it's great, but not as a magic. Alex Hui
