Fib,
Please, dissent freely! It's certainly your right and privilege. The way I see it though, the problem here is that several performer's EXPERIENCES with Tony's Maximum Involvement principle conflicts with your OPINIONS about it. For example, I used Tony's Maximum Involvement principle last night at the Disney resort here on Hilton Head Island. The audience reaction was great and several guests talked to me about this specific routine after the show. It truly bothered them. I got strong reactions for very little effort on my part. So Tony's material is now putting food on my family's table and helping pay my bills. Can a recommendation get any higher than that? Best, Mick

Guys (unless there is a lady amongst us),
What I have seen is that most people who are against the dissent are professional/amateur performers. I did not buy the said ebooks, because I am not a pro. And in that mindset, I may have also not liked the said ebooks. My beef is with people trying to tell Fib what to do. He did not ask for refunds. The creator offered it. Let them decide what to do. Somehow it seems like forcing personal opinions. I am saying this, because there is at least one person in this thread that I respect. As a side note, you cannot ignore the non-pro performers, because we make up the majority of your buyers, unless it s clearly stated "You may be disappointed if you are not a professional performer" - like the one Busch did (not that I like him). Okay, here's my proof. I have a scar over my left eye. I do a terrible mercury fold and horrific Busch page force. Jen, the older woman in the video offered her daughter, Melissa, to me for money. If you slow down the video, you'll notice the spittle coming out of the left corner of my mouth. And to top it all off, I'm only one in one million Americans afflicted with the traumatizing performance anxiety spittle. Finally, if you play it back, the audio says "PsiDroid is a geek."

I like both the ebooks but he certainly has a right to his opinion. He didn't ask for the refund, David offered. Give it a rest. James

James is absolutely right. Fib has every right to express his opinion and whether or not those opinions match the general concensus is by the by - there are far too many cookie-cutter magic performers out there so anyone with a differing opinion from the norm is welcome.
As to the refund issue, I've already said that I was the one to offer and fib at no time asked me for a refund. I don't regret offering simply because it taught me a valuable lesson - despite the constant praise I am getting from purchasers I still took one single criticism way too personally and had a knee-jerk reaction. It won't happen again! For that lesson I am grateful to fib. Opinions are subjective and like I said, the bottom line with magic should be does it do what it says on the tin. I am confident that my product does and whilst I haven't had time to read Tony's I am sure his does too. Best, David. |

Hmm... OK - I apologize, Fib! David and Tony - shame on you for giving a refund!!!!
Yes, I suppose I got a bit fired up only because I know Tony is such a nice guy that he gave the dough back, so my bad for stepping in. let everyone live and learn. At least then I can claim I still have 100% accurate predictions in that Fib is a mensch (notice the verbal techniques sued (or typed). But to topic - FIB!!!! Give me a theme - I'll show you Tony's stuff will KILL in performance!!! C'mon!

This has been a fun thread to read.
On one hand, a person states their opinion and others disagree. That is the nature of a forum. The creators of the effects that said person disagrees with offer the money back as a guarantee, almost unheard of in magic. In the end, everybody is friendly. Why can't magic and mentalism be like this more often? (No, I'm not kidding) Why do we have to trash talk everybody that sees things a little bit differently? I personally like Maximum Involvement,(I am not familiar with Cellular Forecast - yet!). But I am quick to say that it would not fit everyone's performance style. As for the method being obvious, we have to look no further than the Hoy Book Test to understand that simple and bold is not a bad thing and can be quite effective. For those of us that use these and other, similar methods, GREAT! For those that do not, I am sure that we have something to learn from you as well. Again, this was an enjoyable thread! |

A quick update.
I picked up Cellular Forecast - I love it! It might not be for everyone but it sure works in my world. I love the purity of the effect. It really does appear as if the spectators have a totally free choice as long as you present it properly. The price may seem a little on the high side but I can see the potential and I am glad that it eliminates the casual buyer. It has already made its' way into my working set and I have only had it a little over a week! |
