Hi All, I am in the market for a decent "Restaurant Act Video". The reviews of Paul Wilson's seem to be mixed at best. I am not looking for tricks, but good solid advise on bookings, business aspect, spectator management, staff relations etc. I understand Peter and/or Scott may have manuscripts on the subject, Any inputs?
Thanks in advance, Dano MMMMMMMMMM, Donuts Dano

Books: Kirk Charles "A complete guide to restaurant and walk around magic" or Peter Marucci's lecture notes "Real Life Table Hopping" On-line: read some of Scott Guinns articles on the visions web site,, http://www.online-visions.com/ Hope that helps Paul |

I have Wilson's Restaurant video and I am quite happy with it. He details a very strong set that he used for years. The set is nothing extraordinary and includes routines for a TT, chop cup, sponge balls and ambitious card/card to wallet. He has taken these standard pieces and used them to great effect.
I think it is an excellent video and even if you don't ever perform those routines, you can learn a lot about structure and routining from the video. That having been said, I don't think it is what you are looking for. There isn't much on the business and bookings side. Wilson does scatter some great advice throughout the video, but doesn't go into the detail you seem to be looking for. As Preston mentioned above, I'd check out the articles in Online Visions. Also, think about buying the Magic Menu books. Steve Seguin London, ON |

I highly recommend Mark Leveridge's 2 volume set
"The Art of Hopping Tables". Although filmed in England I believe people in general are still the same. This is actual footage shot in a hotel lobby like setting. He gives alot of great advice and In think you will get alot out of it. He even messes up a trick that he does not cut out of the video. It is a 2 volume series. The first is the actual performance and the second, he goes into detail on preperation, audience manangement, handling mistakes, prop management and a whole lot more. Even some great effects are explained in detail that I use all the time in my work. I think they are a wonderful resource for anyone doing restaurant work or table hopping. David Paul

I've got to second Mark Leveridge's "The Art of Hopping Tables". What a fantastic bunch of information for the proffessional worker! I watched it a few years ago when I was first starting to work restaurants and I still refer back to it.

Dano,
I'll PM you with a list of my lecture notes, including Real-Life Table Hopping. It may be the sort of thing you're looking for because it deals more with getting and keeping the job than with the tricks themselves (although the tricks are included). |
