Tom Stone has released new material called "Sleapless in a Pipedream", something that doesn't happend every day!
It is a beautifully made e-book, and Tom has a way of writing that make your brain go bump in the night. I started reading it way too late in the evening and I could not put the laptop down until I finished. And then I could not sleep because all of the ideas bouncing around in my head. Some of the effects are ready to go, and one or two are taken directly from his notebook. So the title of the thing is really appropriate! There are cards, coins, apparatus and even "the slowest sub-trunk in the world" wich I would start to work on immediately (if I did stage magic) - just to know I would be the first to do it. I recommend this one as well as all of Tom's stuff. See http://shop.tomstone.se/ (Yes, we are friends, but I'm not paid or asked to post this, I just want you to know what great magic Tom has - exclusively - at his site) |

Just bought this. I love Tom Stone's ebooks but was a little disappointed with this one simply because the one card routine in the ebook (and I'm predominantly interested in cards) has already been published elsewhere in a booklet I already have... the TSD 'Freebie 2'. So please bear this in mind if you have the Freebie 2 booklet already. I wish this had been stated somewhere on the product page.
Jamie.

Jamie is refering to the Technicolor Assembly called "Among the Madmen". The booklet Freebie 2 is from, I think, 1999 and only a few were printed. The trick being performed all those years has of course evolved somewhat. In the new e-book Tom Stone has updated the trick with patter, a new switch in the beginning and a new vanish for one of the packets.
If you don't have Freebie 2, which I assume most of you don't, this clever trick is quite a joy reading, learning and performing. /Tomas |

Yeah I should have made that clear also - Freebie 2 is an out of print, never to be printed again booklet which had a print run of something like 50-100 copies I think... so chances are you won't have it - but if you already do then it's worth knowing you're getting the routine in Tom's new booklet.
BTW - the coin snatch effect is neat - and for those of you who have the new Joel Givens book 'Sessions', it's an absolutely *perfect* effect to do after 'The Human Slot Machine'... Jamie.

That's right - a new ebook from Tom hot on the heels of Sleapless. Anyone remotely interested in plots & devious methodology should check this out.
For example; "Channeling Holmes" takes Ed Mellon's "Quantimental"in such a direction that I am sure it would fool anyone who knows the original. For the illusionist there is a fascinating idea that combines the Alan Wakeling Sawing through with the Jarret method. The card guys will have fun playing with "Nosejob"! And my personal favourite, "Of Dice and Men"; a stand-up routine based on Andy Nyman's "Dice Man" but employing a different method and a great new presentation. There's also a cut & restored cable that is attached to a lit lamp - a brief notion about a cut & restored tie, and a humorous idea with a bottle, a padlock and a key. Excellent illustrations, as always from Tom. A superb read! PS - shouldn't this thread be in the ebook section?? Peter

But that stilistic style has become an established formula which is difficult to avoid - it is almost expected to write huge exaggerations in the marketing descriptions... and in the end, it turns out that you've bought a pig in a poke that seldom lives up to what you've anticipated, in spite of what the dealer ads have said. So instead of conforming to a stilistic style that says nothing real about the contents, I just thought that it was easier and more honest to say nothing at all. Perhaps some are turned away by that, but that's okay - I'm not dependent on the sales, and the ones who avoid my ebooks will certainly survive without them. I don't consider them to be required reading, more like inspirational books. Though, I've put links to forums where people talk about each ebook, so you can get a hint on what readers thinks of them. |
