I have learned myself that being open, good speaker, having good patter for the tricks, and being very expressive is a major thing to doing good in front of audiences. It takes some work. doing a routine for freinds at partys helps you gain confidence in being up on stage. The 5 months I have ben performing I find it easy to do this now.Tonight was one of my biggest public performances during the street fair. All went well only dropped 2 coins during my routine LOL.
I hope you all will gain confidence in performing, and making them aplaude with a good show.
theres a lot to learn out there, many interesting subjects, and hobbies to enjoy

I think that is all true. And "good patter" means something relevent to the audience.

One of the best thing I could tell a performing when starting out is to find your character/performing sytle!! It helps you word everything better, and it will help you forget about the "moves" and help you concentrate more on being in character.
Magic is not to fool...but allows you to believe!

Unless you are a really good actor and can play the part of someone who is not you, using (lets say) Jay Sankey's patter will just sound really really awkward to your audience. |

If anyone has any questions about practicing or developing a character feel free to give me a yell...i have been doing magic/mentalism for over 17 years now I know I don't have a lot of posts on here but that's because when I first joined up and until recently I was just a reader...seeing what others had to say...but now I have decided to be a part of the talking group...so feel free to ask any questions

A magic show is exactly that, A SHOW. Take some acting, dance, pantomime, music, voice lessons, or even karate classes. Anything from the other classical arts/performances should help you become a better performer. Also combine your UNIQUE interests with your magic for a truly unique magical experience. Take Jeff McBride, his interests are masks and kabuki and such, look at him now!

A good source for advice is Brad Burt's Mini Course in Magic. He sends out several essays on many different topics, and covers some of the very common questions that are asked here in the Café. BEST OF ALL it is Free. You can sign up here:
http://www.magicshop.com/news.htm Don't worry about privacy, Brad keeps his list confidential, and it is easy to unsubscribe. That felt like a pitch! So you know, I am not affiliated with Brad Burt in any way, he has helped me take my magic to the next level, and I know he can do the same for you. ~Matt
