Hi Andrew,

What motivates you? Why do you do magic? Everyone has a story, I'd like to hear yours.

Thanks!

Great answer. I do nto want to answer for you Andrew but perhaps what you might be saying is that you have this ego of wanting to be the bets you can be and not striving for second best? That perhaos this ego of wanting to always do better forces you and motivates you to constantly keep going and bettering yourself? or am I totally off base here lol It wouldn't be the first time.

Fine. The longer answer....

I think I'm happiest when I'm using all of my strengths to their fullest potential. As much as I like the spotlight, I like to solve puzzles that haven't been solved before (at least to my knowledge).

I realized a few years ago that usually when I wasn't happy it was because I wasn't pushing myself creatively on a regular basis. So I decided to restructure my life so that creativity was my driving force.

Part of what makes this possible is that we live in an awesome time. The creative tools available to the average person are incredible. Shortly before I wrote this I was using Photoshop to create some images for a pitch for a TV producer friend. After this I'll edit all the podcasts that go up tomorrow in iTunes for iTricks. Last night I made a DVD for a friend's magic product. All of this while sitting here.

Having all of these creative outlets keeps me very fulfilled and motivated and rewards my ego's sense of self worth.

For more on that I highly recommend reading Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. When you're engaged in the stuff at the top of the pyramid you're at your happiest.
