Queens Out Of Control is based on The Sympathetic Cards which I believe was released in the 1970's. Gerry just streamlined the handling a bit.

John does cite Sympathetic Cards as inspiration for Royal Scam. It's in the credits on the DVD.

In that demo, the girl picked up a card and looked underneath. Are they all examinable do you think?

I believe John Bannon said that for the Fractal Card Magic he wanted to work from the premise that all of the tricks would be examinable. It was an excellent demo to show the effect.

QUICK REVIEW
The Effect. Beginning with a number of identical red-backed Aces Of Spades, the performer magically causes the packet of Aces to turn all face-up and, them, all face-down. All of the faces and all of the backs are shown repeatedly. Unexpectedly, four face-up Aces are turned face-down and now have different-colored backs. As a complete surprise, the remaining aces now become a Royal Straight Flush in Spades. You end clean and everything may be examined. No palming or difficult sleight-of-hand. Cost: $14.95 (Not sure for Europe) Difficulty (1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used, 4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only) I would say 3 (but V easy sleights) Review: Very well produced DVD overall, we have John standing with his back toward an amazing view over some harbour very high up. I found myself paying more attention to the view than learning the effect, LOL. John goes thru everything you need to know and also teaches alternative sleights for certain moves (one of which I have adopted). For a cardician you will have this perfected after one viewing, but for people with little experience with cards, then, as usual, practice will be required. The only thing I found with the filmimg was the fact that it is slightly over exposed due to the huge windows letting in lots of light. I had to turn the brightness down on my monitor. The cards are of the highest quality, produced by the USPCC. The different backed Aces are a thing of beauty. As for performing it, I showed my wife and she Loved it, and could not believe that I let here examine every card after the effect. I personally love Packet tricks, sorry Fractal cards, so I must give this 9 out of 10. Overall: If you like packet trick effects then this is for you. |
