I saw (and met) Kevin James in Daytona Beach Florida this past weekend. He performed the same illusion on stage - my wife was invited up to inspect the "top half" of the cut in half guy. It was a great show, and Kevin is a very nice guy.

It looks that real!!! I think the "subject" may be a real person born without any legs.

I'm not sure it has a name. It's a Kevin James exclusive. And I don't think it can be purchased.

The type of prop used by Kevin James was also used by Rudy Coby years ago in a slightly different application. Rudy divided a girl and her upper half was replaced with a robot. This "creature" had real legs and a robot upper half and was pushing a cart, similar to that used in KJ's bit. I do not know who first came up with the cart idea. Clever, though...
Rudy Coby had the girl's upper half displayed using Dr Lynn's (?) illusion of the living half girl on a swing, described in at least one of the older books. Kevin James' take on the trick took advantage of an idea that is actually quite old (about 75-80 years old). It was quite the sensation in its day. Criss Angel is apparently using part of the same method, although not the push cart. I'm not going to describe any more of the details here, because the secret is too good to just give away. However, in the A&E video, "The Story of Magic", hosted by Ricky Jay (either "Centuries of Deception" or "Mystery in America"), Mike Caveney describes the original method quite sufficiently. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this video was made before Kevin James or Criss Angel presented their versions of the trick. In that the basic method of the trick was exposed, it may have been assumed that it was a trick lost in the past. I am not sure if it was done in any form since that earlier time, until CA and KJ did their versions. I am currently working on my own take on this illusion, using a similar method (not the cart), but for a different trick. There is at least one website dedicated to the man who was "sawed" those many years ago, and it describes the trick and the magician who presented it. ~michael
