The Card College 1 & 2 e-books have demonstration videos. Does anybody know if the Card College Light e-book does as well? I didn't see it mentioned in the Lybrary description of the ebook. It isn't as necessary for this book, but a video demo is always nice.

No, there are no videos in the Card College Light e-book.

Thanks. Are the contents identical to the print version? If you buy the e-book, are you allowed to print a copy for yourself?

Ashley, yes, the contents of the ebook is identical to the book. These days publishers send a PDF to their printer to get the book printed. We received the same PDF from Hermetic Press (Stephen Minch) to publish as ebook.
And yes, you can print a personal copy. You can actually print and copy this ebook as often as you like, as long as these are only used by yourself. So you could print one out to put in your library and you could print one out to make notes in. Same with the ebook. Should you have two computers you use, you can certainly copy the ebook to have it available on both computers, or make a backup copy on a CDROM to store it in a safe place. Of course if you start handing these copies out to others regardless if it is free or for exchange of money, then you are in illegal territory.

Chris--thanks for the reply. It looks like it is you I'd be buying it from! Does the same flexibility apply to all of the other ebooks on Lybrary--i.e., that you can:
1) print personal copies and 2) keep a copy on both a home computer and (for example) a laptop? And, yes, I understand that you cannot distribute it to someone else, even for free, however I do have another question that just popped into my head. What if you want to sell or give away your ebook to someone else, destroying all copies that you have yourself. In other words, can you transfer ownership? It's easy to do with physical goods, but what about digital goods? Do you know how the law handles that? |

It's easier to print out the ones which he provides in PDF format (rather than HTML), but I believe all his new ebooks are in that format, so you should be fine. -Jim

I was referring not actually to the ability to print them--it can be difficult to technologically restrict that--but the legality. ("Can I" versus "may I" I suppose). I don't know much about this stuff, but digital goods start looking to me a bit like software in some respects, and software is typically licensed. Licenses can have restrictions, like "not on more than one computer at a time" and I just wanted to clarify with Chris what is permitted. I like the "freedoms" allowed with the Card College Light ebook, and am of course OK with the restriction he mentions, but just wanted to make sure the freedoms he mentions applies to all of his ebooks. If so, I would have a hard time thinking of good reasons for buying a "pre-printed" version versus just going the ebook route, if I'm just in it for the information contained therein and don't care about collectable value, etc. |
