I've decided to make my way into the world of illusions, and I'd like to build my own. For my first project I'm interested in building a Sub Trunk. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good set of plans, and if possible a ballpark figure of how much it will cost me to construct a very basic version. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what type you want to build. And what version you want to build.
Paul Osborn's Illusion Systems Plans are pretty good. With cost of lumber these days I would give you an estimate of $350-500. This is just a ballpark figure. Let us know how it goes, Mike |

I'm not really very knowledgeable in this area, as being new to illusions, but I was looking to build one with the trap on the top of the trunk. I'm sure that there are lots of other little specific details, but that was the main one that I had in mind. Thanks for the suggestions and the estimate, Mike.

Zach,
Mike is right! Pay the $25 for Osborn's Sub-Trunk Plans. Pay close attention to the plans and I am sure you will have a nice trunk. Actually, I think you can pull it off for a bit less than $300 if you take the time to shop around for the best prices. Make sure to examine your wood planks carefully by looking down the edges and sides checking for any warps or twisting of the plank. I like to pick boards with Knots in the wood and extreme grain contasts. It makes for a more rugged less polished illusion. Sand down all of your edges and finish it with a Matte Finish Clear Coat. You do not want it to look like a piece of furniture rather make it look natural and "used". Get some rugged Hasps and Hinges. Do Not skimp here as they are important Visually and Mechanically. Hope this helps! Chance Wolf Chance Wolf

I have just finished a sub trunk. Mat from random effects designed the plans, see his message in "the workshop" - free illusion plans. He is interested in people wanting to make a sub trunk, and I can highly recommend his plans. It cost me $200 Australian to build, which is a bout $80 US. It looks great, and works very well!

thanks for the great response to my plans. THe plans will be available for all of the general public, though i am looking for a suitable spot to release them on, i will probaly uise The Learned Pig Project or some other similar source to ensure that they stay within the magic community. As for now i am going to be putting some finishing touches on them.
