I use peking with false deals and edge work because it allows me to have more combinations of winning hands without culling or nullifying the cut, I'm just experimenting with different things to see what suits me best.
It's unnatural to turn over and constantly play with the deck. Magician8 |

There IS NO NEED to peek a deck with edge work on it.
The whole point of peeking is to surreptitiously identify cards in the deck. The entire point of marked cards is to be able to secretly identify cards, as well. The benefit of edge work is that the cards are marked on the EDGES. I guess my question is this: Why do you need to peek at a card to know its value when the value is written right on the edge of it? Look - people have been doing this for centuries. Applying analysis is one thing, but trying to reinvent the wheel (or to invent a square one) is something altogether different. Had you said peeking before a second deal, I would understand. Had you said peeking before the flop, now you're making sense. But peeking before dealing bottoms? Centers? Peeking a deck with edge work? Not just any marking system - but edge work? You say that you peek because it offers you MORE of an advantage. Keep trying to take more and more advantage of a game, and you're going to get popped. That's not a good feeling, and it takes a while to shake off the first couple of times that it happens. Sometimes, you never shake it off depending on the consequences that came with getting caught. And you never know what people will do when they catch you until that situation arises. It's best not to know for sure. The guys that have been doing this for a while will all tell you that it's about a modest edge multiplied by time. This is especially true in a game where fidgeting with the deck arouses suspicion, and you don't even feel safe peeking. The point that Silver made is a very valid one, and one that has been made a myriad of times. I suggest you think long and hard on that, if you are really working for the money. At any rate, you have gotten some sources for southpaw peeks. That's what you came for; not a lecture on cheating do's and don'ts. CC |

I don't mark all the cards with edge work, kings and aces for examples, but by peeking I can deal myself other cards, 10s for example, and then getdifferent combinations of cards.
It works for me so far so I'll stand with it. Magician8 |

"...a modest edge multiplied by time."
Such a pretty gathering of words.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

And I would say the same about the words in your sig.
Actually, that is the absolute essence of what I was trying to say. 8, Good luck. CC |

Oh, as for the topic at hand, and I deal lefty myself, only real way to do it is to roll the deck and move the top card back with your thumb to catch the index. With standard cards it's a piece of cake, casino-printed faces forget about it--very difficult to read anything at all w/o pulling the top card almost halfway off the pack, as far as this method goes...

Perhaps I did come off a little brash, but I meant no harm.
And I didn't know he was that young. I got the impression from his post(s) that he was claiming to be an active worker, and was going for the money. Just trying to help. CC |

For what it's worth, the peek that Mr. Z describes is mentioned in Scarne's New Complete Guide to Gambling (in the section on cheating at Blackjack) and in Livingston's Dealing With Cheats (with a picture).
Another method that works is to lift the index corner a little bit off of the other cards. This is described in The Modern Conjurer and Magic Without Apparatus (as a right handed peek with cards that have indices on all four corners). There is a method in Card Manipulations where the fingers push the card over the thumb. This works fine with either hand. All three of these methods require turning the right hand somewhat palm down. The standard bottom peek works fine with the cards in the right hand. It's described in Ortiz's Gambling Scams and The Annotated Erdnase (among other places). Andru
