I was looking for material on the ESP deck. If anyone has a DVD or book that they would like to recommend, please feel free to do so.
Thank you sincerely! |

Hi
You can get a nice begginers booklet with some really great effects in it called Entertaining ESP by Patrick Page and Ken DeCourcy. (It even comes with some nice marked ESP Cards. |

Larry Becker's "Epitome" (Super Mentalism II, p. 121) is the best ESP symbol matching trick I've ever seen. I carry it with me all the time. You do need a double-backed card for it and need to mark the ESP cards. I've been using cards from the Symbology deck instead of regular ESP cards, since they are pre-marked and I can select one set of red symbols and one of blue symbols.

It's OOP, but Thomas Henry's Handbook of ESP Mentalism is a great resource for learning effects with the Zenner cards.
Self concept is destiny..

I believe the new Nick Trost book has a chapter on ESP card effects and you might want to check out "The Mental Magick of Basil Horwitz" Vol.3.
For the colored ESP deck there's an excellent routine on the "Mind Stuff" DVD set. The "Beyond ESP" deck from MagicBox comes with several routines. The Entertaining ESP booklet and deck mentioned by TrueSoldier is produced by Royal Magic. I recall that having some good routines in, though some were not credited. I do recall playing with "Epitome" mentioned by Robin back in the eighties. If I remember rightly you held cards behind your back. From a presentational point of view, I think the best ESP matching card effect was Jon Tremaine's "With Sight Unseen" which he marketed at one time. It is possible that also appeared on a video he put out. More recent thinking on the plot with just the ten cards can be found in Doug Dyment's "Mindsights". If you're serious about mentalism seek these out, if you just want tricks, don't bother Paul. |

If you are looking for a powerful ungaffed 'matching' presentation that does not require a double backed/faced card nor an extra/sticky card to achieve the effect then try 'Zennerism' by David Britland.I keep coming back to this classic presentation due to it's simple but clever methodology and it's inherent cleaness. The ESP cards will however need to be marked but you could do this yourself. I think that if I remember rightly I purchased the effect from Trickshop.com as an E-mail download. It is not expensive.
Best wishes.Andy. |

Magic With An ESP Deck by Sam Dalal would be a good inexpensive book to start with.

Yes, Paul, in Epitome you hold the cards either behind the back or under the table. But the huge advantage of this method is that you are truly one-ahead, rather than one-behind as in so many methods. And at the end, you and the spectator turn your cards over cleanly to show each match in turn.
I've used lots of methods. Of the playing card matching versions, for years I preferred one of Jerry Hartman's methods from an old Linking Ring where you used Jacks as "Marriage Brokers." Herry told me of an improvement he made and published, but I preferred the older method. |
