Let me say one thing about this effect, you need good eyesight to do it. If you wear reading glasses to read or work on your computer...BUT do not wear them during your show you will be unable to do this.
Unfortunately for me computer type and print is a blur unless I wear reading glasses, however on stage I don't wear them hence I can't see the gimmick (which is very small and hard to see even with good vision). That's about all I can say without actually tipping off the exact workings. Just friendly advice, if you need reading glasses off stage then save your money. If you have have contacts, wear glasses on stage or just have great vision then consider it. |

I don't have this product, but it doesn't look very magical in my opinion.
I mean, so you can tell the time without a watch... I could do the same thing just by glancing at someone else's watch and then play along like the rest of the trick. I dunno, maybe it HAS SOME uses, but it's not something that appeals to me. I hope someone can shed some light on this because, so far to me, it doesn't look like anything fantastic. All the best, Logan

Logan,
I don't know, but it would be almost impossible to keep glancing at the spectator's watch and tell the time at different intervals during the act. This is more of a gag rather then a trick. But I think it is a good one. It is not a killer effect but something to do between different tricks. Also imagine you always carry this with you, at work, at school... whenever they ask for the time, you can do it. These type of things kind of put in th back of the mind of the spectators that we are magical in everything. My 2 cents. hehe we use cents too here in Malta. Ivan

Gaetan did this at Blackpool. I`m not going to say to much on this site, but I`m not using it . It`s just a gag, and not a very strong one in my view. Not sure if there is much point in it and I would hate to of paid for it. (work it out for yourself ) . Of course if it does work for you --

This effect is an old Paul Diamond gag; he used an easy to read (and easy to find) gizmo. His gag had him drawing a watch face on his wrist and checking it from time to time (reporting the time). It was a “throwaway” bit in one of his lectures in the 80’s. He didn’t sell it; he gave it away (you had to buy your own gizmo).
It is just that, a gag. It is nothing more. It is not magic, it is not a magic trick, it is a sight gag (pun intended). It is a very light or soft gag at that. In fact, it is so light that it is possible for some people in the audience to miss it. As to not wearing glasses in your act, make the gag funnier by openly taking out your glasses to read the invisible watch (or the watch drawn on the back of your wrist). Take them out, put them on, do the gag, take them off and put them away, do this as a running gag throughout your act. I think doing that would get a bigger chuckle! Is Gaetan’s version worth the investment? Of course it is. He has packaged the needed gizmo for you so you don’t have to drive all over town to find it (you will probably find one locally that has an easier to read face once you know the “secret”). Plus you have Gaetan’s tips and handling (if you can call it handling, but you know what I mean!).

Harry,
Great Idea with the glasses. I've got this darn thing and didn't know what to do with it. I can see that putting on the glasses to read the invisible watch could be hilarious if done right. This could be funny even if you didn't wear glasses. What could be more absurd than putting on glasses to read an invisible watch? I LOVE it. Thanks for a great idea! Devin Knight |

Wow...
Now I have a problem... I have never seen "Invisible Watch", nor have I heard of it prior to reading this thread. But by reading this thread, I caught myself saying; "I bet I know how he's doing it... I could... (fill in the blank... I won't for obvious reasons)" It's too good not to use personally... now... I have no idea if what I'm thinking of doing is the actual working of the effect. It could be an "alternate handling". Should I use my "unique" idea personally? I don't think the effect is worth $25. I could do what I thought of for about $5... that's not to much for a impromptu "cute effect". Hummm....
Boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth? Boy: There is no spoon. Neo: There is no spoon? Boy: Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself. |

As Harry said, once you know the secret it is easy to make up your own Invisible Watch. If you want to make it, here's a good tip (and I don't mean a good thumb tip)...look for the book Gaetan Bloom 86, originally published by Jeff Busby. It details eight superb Bloom routines many of which are, IMO, worth the price of the book, including the Invisible Watch.

The effect of the "gag" as someone pointed out is not new. I have not seen Gaeton do it so have no idea how HE does it (he's a clever guy),but Herman Yeager had a similar type stunt in the Sphinx. It can be found in "The Sphinx Golden Jubilee Book of Magic" and this probably pre-dates even the Diamond idea somewhat.

Tony Andruzzi also used to use a crystal ball and a similar idea as Blooms. By combining Blooms idea with Anduzzi's of using a crystal ball to tell time, you have a very clean handling of Andruzzi's.
