Hello, all.
I have the following three cards and I don't know what it is called. I hope someone here can help identify it/ The effect consists of thre cards: 1. A red-backed Three of Spades with a 3/4" hold drilled completely through the card dead center. 2. A blue-backed King of Diamonds. This is actually a double card glued together. There is a hole identical to the howl described for card #1 (above) both in size and placement The 2nd card of this glued double does not have a hole drilled through it at all. This second solid card of the double shows "blank" when viewed through the hole in the King of Diamonds. These two cards cannot be separated (completely glued together) so I surmise that the "solid card glued to the back of the King of Diamonds is either a totally blank card, or, it is something like a "four" (i.e., which is unprinted with pips dead center in the middle of the card. 3. A blue-backed "regular" ungimmicked King of Diamonds. Any ideas? Your sugestions (and where I might find instructions for this packet trick) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. Mike

It sounds like an old Bob Farmer effect with the exception that it used cards with red and blue circles. I had it a long time ago and for the life of me I can't remember the name.

No, it's not one of my effects (you were probabaly thinking of "Nothing to Lose"). This sounds like Paul Curry's effect, "Sure Thing." That came out in 1978 and you got an unprepared blue-backed picture card (your KD), a red-backed spot card with a hole in it (your 3S) and a gimmicked blue-backed picture card with a hole showing a plain white surface.
The audience sees two cards, a king with a blue back with a hole through it, and a spot card with a red back with no hole. The cards are turned face down. The blue-backed card with the hole must be the king -- the solid red-backed card must be the spot card -- but when they are turned face up the spot card now has the hole and the king doesn't. All of the details are contained in the book, PAUL CURRY'S WORLD'S BEYOND published by Hermetic Press in 2001. |

Thanks Doug and Bob. I certianly appreciate all the help and suggestions.
I think that Bob is right. The fellow that gave me these cards about 4-5 years ago is a huge Paul Curry Afficianado and, in retrospect, he might have even mentioned Paul Curry's name when he gave me this effect. I'm off to check out World's Beyond. Thanks again for all the help. Best regards, Mike
