I am about to have a guy come to my house to discuss about a web site for me and look at some design ideas, but I cant think of a good, professional domain name for my site. So I thought you guys/girls might be able to help me out with some domain name ideas??
Well I will get a few things out of the way first: My name is Tom Hudson (prefer the name Tom but my full name is 'Thomas Hudson') http://www.tomhudson.co.uk............ is taken. http://www.tom-hudson.co.uk............ is taken. http://www.thomashudson.co.uk............. is taken. And I am lost for any other ideas that sound professional for an adult’s close-up magician/entertainer. If any of you can please help me and give me some ideas. That would be great and I would highly appreciate it. Thanks, Tom Hudson. |

My name is Tom Hudson (prefer the name Tom but my full name is 'Thomas Hudson') So ... what is your PROFESSIONAL name? Do people hire 'Tom' or do they hire 'Thomas'? You wouldn't expect people to remember 'davecopperfield.com' because that's not how he's billed. BTW, for about a zillion reasons, I've always strongly suggested doing your own website. Otherwise (just for starters) you'll be tethered to this designer more strongly than you know, your business relationship will tend to make him design the be-whoozis out of something that should be very simple, and you'll spend much more. |

A new top-level domain (TLD) has recently become available. It is .me, so perhaps yourname.me hasn't been taken yet, act fast.

Sometimes people put key discriptor words together as well, when choosing a domain name.
Example: http://www.FunAmazingMagic.co.uk - Donald
Donald Dunphy is a Victoria Magician, British Columbia, Canada.

A mistake I made was in naming one of my sites by my stage name. I think it makes more sense to name your site according to what you do, and what people will Google. For instance: http://www.SpookyHypnotist.com --

Guys I think I am going to go with:
http://www.tomhudsonmagic.co.uk and .com (I will buy both and link them both to my website if some one types .com instead of .co.uk) What do you think of this name? Credit gose to Rory Raven for the name. Tom. |

Having the word 'magic' in the domain name always helps when people do a search.

Unless you are famous "David Copperfield" or your name is highly recognizable, "BozoTheClown" it is not the best domain name.
HudsonMagic.com is the best listed above if Available still using your name. The best domain name is how others will find you. It should contain what you do. CloseupMagician.co.uk would select magicians looking for you but not the public, they will not know the difference from a closeup magician from a kids magician, to them they are both magicians. Since it is the single most powerful name a webdesigner can have for the search engines, it should contain easy to spell words, specific to the job title. Question: What would a corporate client type in a search engine and find me and not my competition? These are examples of the thought process of selecting a domain name.

I have battled with this one. I wondered about having two domain names leading to one website. I too had my stage name in my first website. Changed it now but then had second thoughts. Since magic.com cost a zillion dollars or entertainer.com etc I had to find something with magic in it and what one would search for. Well, all those are taken so I settled what I hope the locals will remember.
