I love the Haunted pack, but I didn't care for the Youtube demos of SCARED.
Look at the original, Al Baker's, "Pack That Cuts Itself". The title says what this effect is all about. That's what makes it erie. A mysterious force is cutting the deck and revealing the card. I'm only going by the demo. Perhaps folks are getting as great a reaction as a traditional, hands off, haunted pack, where the pack cuts itself and the chosen cards slowly moves out of the pack ( as if it's being pushed ). I'm not saying it's not good to get and know SCARED. Sure, for when you're in a non-performing situation, why not know how to do it. I'm all for learning all the methods you can. But if you're preparing for a show or Halloween, I'd go for a different method that produces a more powerful end result.

Heya Chris,
"Pack that cuts itself" that's pretty much what S.C-A.R-E.D is but it's been shortened. Self cutting, always ready, everyday deck. Because of how deceptive and well hidden the set up is for Scared, it makes it possible to create "effects" from the set up. As opposed to meirly haveing a haunted deck that is used purly for a deck cutting itself, it means you get different stories depending on which situation you find yourself in. The point of scared is to create a version of the haunted deck that looks like it uses a gimmick but doesn't. JamieD

Jamie, I think it's wonderful you created a version that has the specs you said SCARED has.
I hope everyone gets all versions, if they can, of plots they love. Best wishes and success to you and your creation! Chris

If you like the Haunted Pack, then you'll want S.C-A.R-E.D. It's very well written, with lots of photos and I was able to read along, with deck in hand and do it.
I'm an IT person. But, sometimes the lighting or conditions aren't optimal. With S.C-A.R-E.D. you can still do a version of the Haunted Pack. whether it's as powerful, you'd have to perform it both ways for many performances to decide. I like the set up for "Slightly S.C-A.R-E.D" much more. It's not done on the fly, but I think the little bit of work is worth it. Cameron Francis has some great input and it's his ideas that I'll use as I think it improves the handling. There's an idea for drawing a Ghost on an indifferent card ( ala Richard Sanderson's STICKMAN ) that winds up having their sig on the face. PERFECT for Halloween. Even if I didn't use S.C.A.R.E.D. I will be using ideas from the manuscript, so I got my monies worth. The demo shows the basic idea. What it didn't show was an actual performance with an audience, which would make a difference. The manuscript has ideas for this that make up for the concerns I had about the demo. Jamie, NICE WORK!

Heya Chris,
Nice to see you liked it. I think real world performances of this would have been great also. Sometimes these demo's arn't truthful and you odnt get the full impact of the trick. However, I'm glad you liked it. Cameron's idea's are priceless and there are a few nice little idea's that can be used elsewhere to. But do check out http://www.StreetSleights.co.uk and pop in. Jamie, I think the demo you showed was truthful and fair. It wasn't an MTV, shaky camera, people screaming, etc. Kudos to you for showing an honest view!
After reading the manuscript I got a better idea of how this would play. As I said, there are things in the manuscript that I'll sue when I'm using IT.

I just downloaded and read this and while I've always done this effect with IT, I love that this is relatively impromptu. It's very clever and while I haven't tried it on anyone yet, I suspect it will be powerful--particularly the advanced handling in someone's hand. Well done!

This version of Hanuted Pack is very, very good. I like the basic version with the 30 second set-up.

Picked up S.C-A.R-E.D a couple weeks ago, and I really like it. I usually use a loop for the haunted pack, but it's nice to have a version I can fall back on if I'm not wearing it, or if the loop breaks or something. Very solid and practical.
