Dear Mr. Kranzo,
How would you go about creating a card effect and how do you find a new way to do it technically? Thanks, Greg |

To tell you the truth I very rarely set out to create a new card effect.
I'm usually un-happy with a certain effect or handling and just change it completely to suit my needs. The times that I have created a card effect from scratch....well it was just an accident. Sometimes accidents are good. I think it's important to be very well read and have a good knowledge of the history of card magic, and then you can tweek things a bit. Best, Nathan

That's a good point. It's important to know that it is not necessary to follow the exact handlings of published routines if you have a deep enough knowledge to change it to fit your style. I do it all the time. And in the process you might come up with a really good idea.
