I do this trick where at one point in the routine you force a blank card on the spec and returned to the deck ect. ect. Anyway, I have thought that it would make the trick SO much simpler if I just used a blank card that has 2 of the corners trimmed. And here is what I am worried about, I don't know if a card with a couple short corners would be something your average spec would notice and find odd? I know a blank card in itself they would find odd to begin with, but when they look at the card after "picking" it would your average spec notice the trimmed corners? Or would it stick out to them as obviously as it would to me?

A properly shortened corner should not be noticed

If you are trimming two diagonally oposite corners, then it probably won't be noticed. You could always hold the card by these two corners when showing it is a blank. This way it would cover the trimming

Yeah in the two non-pip corners. Maybe It's just cause I know they are short that my eye goes straight to them. I guess the first thing a spec would notice is the blank face. And they aren't holding onto hit for very long 15 seconds at the most.

I do not think that would notice any more than they notice all odd or even cards in an INVIS deck and I think that is very obvious but no one in 20+ years has said anything...like evolve said...dont run if you are not being chased.

Would you feel more comfortable if you cornershort all four corners so that they look equal?
Make both versions and if you are confident with the version with four corners start to experiment with two corners. You will see that it will work without notice.

Simple test. put 20 blank cards in a paper bag along with your trimmed one.
Shake and have someone take them from the bag one at a time and show them to you. If you have a tough time finding it, so will the spectator. ps: I've used a corner short for over 30 years and never heard a single word from a spectator. |
