I was wondering what your inspiration was for your style of magic.

Juliegel,
I've never really been able to determine what my "style" really is. At least not like a style you can define like a Williamson or Max Maven where you have a very definitive style or character. I guess my performance style derived through whatever magic skills I was learning at the time. I got hooked very early on close-up magic and early influences were a man from Pittsburgh named Ron Slanina, and of course Del Ray. They both performed very hard-hitting close up magic. Other big influences on me were Don Alan, Albert Goshman, Slydini, Vernon, Eddie Fechter and Eddie Tullock. All of their magic was very hard hitting and they all had very specific performance styles. I tried to go the "young corporate executive" route in terms of presentational style, but tried to maintain the very visual hard-hitting magic I was seeing from the magicians listed above. The approach worked well for me especially at the time I was getting into the business as there were very few younger "executive" looking magicians at the time and if that is the image they wanted I was one of very few to choose from. I always though using the name "The (Paul) Gertner Group" was a brilliant touch. I suspect that idea alone got you some work.

WSduncan,
What the name did is let the client know that if I was not available someone else from 'The Group" would be able to come in and do a good job. It was good from a business standpoint. Paul |

I assume that the sound association with the Gartner Group didn't hurt either.
