I was messing around on Christmas and filmed this shadow coin video on a cellphone.
What do you all think? I'm always open to opinions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxRRZsWtQ1s Thanks -Derek |

Your routine looks really nice. I wonder, though, if less would be more. One simple clear picture may be more astonishing than a sequence of segments.
What do you think? Cheers Jerry |

I really, really liked that Derek!
I can understand what Jerry is saying but I find the extra sequences make it more of a FULL routine. I find Shadow coins (on its own) very beautiful but rather short. Just as I get settled in it's over type thing. In your performance I can really get into it and enjoy the different sequences. Continue to keep your movements fluid and graceful throughout the entire routine and you have winner my friend. It's like visual poetry, lots of fun to watch. Cheers! |

It may be that magicians are "used to" Shadow Coins type routines now.
But when I saw Michael Ammar do the routine the first time many years ago ... well, the picture is still clear in my mind as one of the great magical moments. He got down on the floor amidst a group of people, and went through all the preliminaries about checking his hands for sticky stuff, etc. This really built up the magic to follow, as well as erasing possible methods beforehand. Then he did the routine. Fortunately, this was at a lecture when he was just starting to teach the routine. I was surprised that Michael Ammar would give it up, and really ecstatic to learn it. Today's routines, where coins jump around repeatedly, do not have the same magical impact, in my view. The effect of Shadow Coins is clear and can be stated in a few words -- a good test for any trick. All this said, Derek does his routine very well. Cheers, Jerry |
