Whats a funky mid sized, mid priced illusion for kids?
I want to put a good one in my kid's show for bigger shows to justify the extra cost to the client. I was looking at Airhead but I heard bad things about the quality. Anyone had good experiences? |

I would use the "ABC Gum Recombobulator" by Chance Wolf. It is a great trick for adults and kids.

How about the one called "Wiz Kote Machine" where you put the kid's shoe in the "Wiz Kote Machine" and it gets burnt to a crisp? Anyone seen this played out -- if so, how does it play? Seems cool from the description.

Wiz Cote plays very well. It plays well both in a parlor sized setting or the largest of shows. It was created by Steve Hart, a friend of ours and a great thinker in magic and now in motivational speaking.

Hi Nicholas:
Are you looking for an illusion that involves a member of the audience? |

Audience involvment would be nice.
I am sorry I can't be more clear. I am really adding the effect for marketing reasons rather then artistic which is always a tricky road to tread. Basically, I want an effect which is the centerpiece for the routine. |

Nicholas,
I am not sure what you are seeking. I don't know what "Balloonhead" is. The two illusions (ABC Gum Recombobulator and Wiz Kote Machine) already noted are pretty small by “grand illusion” standards. These are great routines, but I am not sure they carry the visual impact you may be looking for. Do you want an illusion where a volunteer is levitated, suspended, vanished, etc., etc., or are you looking for something that “packs small, plays big?” 0pus |

Airhead is a vanishing head swordbox which uses balloon swords instead of real one.

I assume you will use a spectator for this.
I think that this is a variation on Andrew Mayne's "Balloon Box," but not better. Balloon Box is more a balloons through torso rather than head. Advantages in performance are that the spectator is not thrown into total darkness (which can cause panic for some). It is also bigger, looks more impressive. I believe several builders have built models of this effect. It originally appeared in Andrew Mayne's Illision F/X. 0pus |

Nicholas,
How about "Boy to Rabbit?" Where a boy from the audience is turned into a rabbit? Jim Sommers has this illusion in his book. I think it's also in one of the Tarbell books. Jim

I have a Balloon Sword Cabinet (Balloons through the body (See: Balloon Sword Cabinet) and what is nice about it is, after the show you have pre-blown balloons to make animals out of them. (Charge extra for this or add it to your deluxe package deal.)
Even though I got this trick I haven't used it because, I have so may other choices. It is going to be added to my show and see how it plays out. What really markets well is floating the birthday child and a family photo of it adds to it. Now the chair suspension would work well, or a modified Super X type where you use it as your magic table then break down the table at the end of your show floating the birthday child. There are some angle issues and kids running around the Flying Carpet, but when they are resolved, it to is a good effect. The visable sawing-in-half may be another choice. It packs small enough and comes with it's own table.

Sean Taylor in Oz has a new visible sawing that looks great!
Its called Bladerunner and costs only $999 Australian! (about $650 US) Anyone ever used catapoultry? That looks fun! Put a chicken in a catapault and it vanishes! |

Nicholas,
You mentioned Sean Taylor's Bladerunner, may I know how or where I may check it out, like a website? Thanks.

I don't think Sean has it on anysites but I can email you a pic if you like.
"BLADERUNNER Imagine getting a volunteer from the audience and sawing them in half with an electric saw.....That's BLADERUNNER. This unique mini illusion in a case is based on the electric sawing of Jack Hughes but has literally dozens of improvements. The illusion consists of a sturdy, modern, carpet covered table around 50 cm off the floor and a stock which fits over the middle of the spectator. You lock the spectator in position and place a piece of examined plywood into the stock directly over their middle. You then bring forth a real electric saw with a 35cm blade. The saw is placed into the stock, fired and up and it whirrs away sawing right through. The saw ACTUALLY cuts the wood but leaves the spectator unharmed. No fiddling with bolts or levers, its automatic!" |
