Hi Jack,
Who are the greatest cardmen you have sessioned with down the years? Best John |

Well, I will never forget the time I first met Billy Goodwin in Sacremento. (A-1 convention in 97? maybe 98.) That shark just snuck up on me real slow, and polite like and schooled me real good. I think I had to ask him to show me a card trick (I didn't even know who he was- you couldn't get anymore "underground" than William was back then.)
Well, I was flabberghasted. I would say sessioning with Billy was my first attendance at University. Fooled me with EVERYTHING he did. Just a powerhouse of knowledge, and not an inkling of ego. He would teach anything that he was free to teach, if he thought it would make any difference. That's when I learned that there is no limit to what can be accomplished with a deck of cards, and that it will never end. We will continue always to get surprised. (Sometimes there are long lulls- but it comes!) I've been blessed to have sessioned and swap card tricks with Jimmy Grippo, Larry Jennings, Derek Dingle, Mike Skinner, Bruce Cervon, and Frank Garcia, God Bless them all. Never sessioned with Dai Vernon! Thank God! I was a high speed, riffle stacking, second dealing fast talking punk when I saw him at the Castle in the 70's and if I had shown him anything he would have dressed me down for everything from going too fast, annoying flourishes at the wrong time, and no presentational skills to name a few. I know this from what he said and did to others! I think I was spared a traumatic experience- and was allowed to learn these things from gentler sources! Allan Ackerman! There's a sessioner! Good luck remembering half of what he shows you! There's |

I can attest to that. I've been lucky to sit at a table with Allan a few times. What a super nice guy. He sat down as a few of us were doing things and he just says, "Hi, show me a trick." I was just flabbertasted and balked. So did a few for us, then encouraged us saying he wouldn't bite. I did a few things and he was complimentary, and helpful.

Treats me the same way Pepka! Always a pleasure to sit down with him. Also at least a few surprises and breakthroughs.
