Paul,
You're definitely one of the busiest and most workingest performers I know. 1. What keeps you going day after day and 2. What is your ultimate goal, where are you trying to take the Paul Draper performer character in 5, 10, 20 years? Continued success in 2009 my friend, Alvo |

What a kind comment Alvo!
1) The key to keeping busy, for me, is to wake up each morning and get out of the house! First thing I do is prepare for leaving the house. Even if I don't have anywhere in particular to go. This forces me to take a shower, brush my teeth and put on nice clothes, because I don't know who I may meet! So where do I go? Sometimes to the grocery store to buy groceries for the day. Sometimes to the library, sometimes to a local talent agents office to check in. Sometimes I just go for a walk around the local park. It doesn't matter where I go. All that matters is that I get up, prep for the day and take action. I start the inertia ball rolling. Next I devote 4 - 8 hours a day to my magic! At least 4 hours, 7 days a week! And, just like leaving the house above, it doesn't really matter to me how I spend those 4 hours. As long as I consistently spend 4 structured hours a day. Even if I work a 10 hour shift at the Venetian, I still come home and spend 4 hours on my future. Some of that time is spent mailing my managers and agents. Some of that time is spent mailing out resumes and information to ads on Craigslist, callbacknews, actorsaccess etc. Some of that time is spent working on my monthly newsletter or updating my website. Some of that time is spent searching for new leads. And some of that time is spent working on the show itself. All that maters to me is that I am in a routine of 26 -52 hours per week devoted towards forward momentum on my magic career. That structured time produced results. Great writers write every day. They devote a certain number of hours each day to writing. And we need to do the same for our business. There will never be a magical booking fairy who will see us working on our perfect multiplying candle effect in our garage and pluck us from obscurity to make us a star! We must devote ourselves every day, not only to the art, but to the business of magic. 2) 5 year plan, 10 year plan, 20 year plan The five year plan has T.V. time in mind. The five year goal is to have a television series on anthropology, paranormal or the like. While continuing to be a strong force in the university and corporate booking market. The 10 year plan includes a 1 man show in New York and perhaps a part time return to teaching and education in one of the newly sprouting university magic programs around the nation. The 20 year plan is still in development and will be highly variable based on the accomplishments of the 5 year plan. However, lots of publishing and/or sharing of thoughts and materiel will be part of that decade. Thank you for your question, it made me reflect and think in positive ways! Much success to you in 2009! -Paul Draper |
