Richard Sanders - Stickman 4 from the Sanders Show DVD's
One among many stickmen routines, but this one has a really nice kicker with 4 stickmen jumping from the backs of 4 cards on to one of the cards. For those of you in the know, I have changed the routine by having a full deck of stickmen 4 cards, where the spectator has a free choice of any card (of course face up). I go into the routine showing 3 jokers, then having the spectator choosing a card and then move on from there. There is not a lot of talk about this routine in the café forum, but I would like to give my recommendations. First of all Stickmen are funny, everybody likes them, but especially women and children. This is a card trick that is great for children, because its not a card trick. Description. 3 jokers are shown. Spectator chooses a card, the card is inserted face up in between the 3 jokes (back sides up). With a shake, the chosen card now also have back side up. Antoher shake and the chosen card has face side up. The chosen card is turned around to reveal the secret. On its backside it has a Stickman with a magicians hat. It is shown that this is the only card among the 4 with a stickman on its back. Then the routine progresses into having a stickman appear on the backs on all 4 cards. As a finale the 4 stickmen jumps onto the spectators chosen card, which can be handed out as a souvenir. BTW, only 4 cards are used. If you are performing this effect, I would very much like to hear about your experience. I love when the 4 stickmen jumps onto the chosen card – very visual and strong ending. Another routine using sort of the same concept is Also Colombini’s “Have a Nice day”, it is using yellow smileys on the back of the cards. Best regards Jan |

It is an excellent trick, I perform it untill I lose the cards and then forget it for a while. I admit I have not developed any novel presentations.

I have used Stickman 4 for the last couple of years. This is one of those rare routines that seems to play well to any age. Quick, visual, and plenty of humour.
It is an interesting idea using the deck full of Stickmen, although I couldn't sacrifice the pocket space. As for variations, I normally miss out the phase where the joker disappears and reappears near the beginning (2 Elmsleys) as after many performances, I found (for me anyway) it didn't really add to the magic (and it seemed like Elmsley overload). I normally get the joker signed (just before the first mini stickman reveal), and let the spec. keep the card. |

Hey Puggo,
Pocket space. Well I'm one of the rare magicians who actually carries a bag with me. Then I constantly have 8 sets times 4 tricks on me when table hopping. I can load my pockets with 3 sets (12 tricks) and the other 5 sets in the bag. That way I can go on for 90-120 minutes wihtout repeating a trick - 15 minutes at every table). I always finish the table by saying to the audience that If they are really interested in magic they can follow me around "I wont repeat the same trick, its all different, so please follow me around". The good thing is, you will get really interested people to follow you around at the tables which creates a great atmosphere and lots of applause from the very first trick at the next table - kind of a tension that builds. Something like, "if somebody is following him around he most be good". Good idea with the signature part. However, the 2 Elsmley in the beginning is an eye-popper in my experience. Play it big, and the specs really starts to get curious - and I want them to burn my hands here, because there is nothing to see or hide, its all very visual. Jan |

My friend uses Mr Stickman as per the original Sanders instructions and he raves how well received it is by his audiences. Stick with the original.

Ever since the Sanders vids arrived in my mailbox a couple years ago, this effect immediately became my favorite!
Maybe it's because I have always had an affinity for effects with stickmen. They seem to have a universal appeal, don't you think?
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Jan, Great taste! Both Stickman 4 and Have a Nice Day are strong, visual magic with nice story lines, and they are technically easy too. They are two of my favorites. John

Hello.
Love this trick, have it down pretty smooth. My only concern is that I can see a quick flash of the markings when displaying the last joker in the beginning part of the routine. To be clear, I don't believe I'm doing it wrong-no matter how quickly/smoothly I do it, it's always there. Can anyone offer any advice, or perhaps suggest a workaround? Thanks. |

Hey. This is an old thread but I have a solution to the display at the beginning of the routine.
I’ve just published a video on YouTube looking at three packet tricks you’ve probably never seen before. Stickman 4 is the first one I look at. I explain how I have modified the routine to eliminate the slightly dodgy move at the beginning. Here’s the link. I hope it helps. https://youtu.be/UWJe0v4QAIg |

Hey Craig,
Pretty interesting twist you have on eliminating the flash quick move on the flushtration count. Not sure if I'll use it but will certainly try it in practice. Thanks for sharing this!! Stickman 4 definitely rocks. Roberto

Nice video, Craig. You mentioned that you could show the improvements you'd made to Stickman 4. I'd be interested!
Thanks, Bob |
