OH MAN THIS IS AWESOME .... Speaking to the one and only J.Mcbride!!!!!!!
Excuse my excitement, you're simply one of my idols in magic. My question: Although I'm not interested in stage magic, I'm heavily into close up card magic. I planned some presentations where miming plays a major rule, though I have no experience what so ever about it. Where do you think is a good place to learn how to mime? Since you do bits of miming in your work,do you think miming can be applied effectively in areas of magic other than stage, and especially, other than an act choreographed to music? If it sounds like a silly basic question, I apologize. >__< ... ~ Feras P.S I'M TALKING TO JEFF McBride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *ouch*, I'm not dreaming .. |

Greetings Feras, and all...
I feel that movement theater training is essential for a magical performer, whether they do close-up magic or stage. There have been many very successful close-up performers that perform either silently, or utilizing pantomime techniques. Al Goshman performed many of his pieces to music, and had choreographed movement, as well as Slydini. This tradition continues today with extraordinary pantomime performers like Armando Lucero, who often works silently, close-up and onstage. Good pantomime training is often difficult to track down in your local area. I was lucky enough to move to NYC, where I studied at the Paul Curtis American Mime Theater. I had to make a decision; if I was committed to being serious about becoming a better performer, I had to leave the comfort and security of my hometown, and become a "starving artist" in NYC. You may have other options. I have some friends in Maine, who run Celebration Barn, which is an excellent place to pursue your training. Here's their info: http://www.celebrationbarn.com/ There are no silly questions, Feras. It's just how seriously you want to answer them that's important. Silently yours, Jeff
