Wanlu, I am fine with those guys having no clue as to who I am.
IMHO the video was not funny. It is just my opinion. I'd never heard of David and knew of Brad only because he sells a course to magicians. (Like so many other success stories...) It seemed to upset John that I had never heard of them, so I did my homework. I have heard of Silly Billy - didn't make the connection. The guy is a popular Kid Show entertainer. He markets books and apparently products. That doesn't make him a superstar. Brad's got a Disney contract. Great for him, but it doesn't make him a superstar either. John, why are you, Brad and David hung up on that term? A SERIOUS six figures doesn't make them superstars, neither does the fact they make a living performing. You are working pros - which should be enough. Superstars are people like Copperfield, Blaine, Robin Williams, Madonna - say the name and even people outside the business know them. Sorry Brad, a Radio Disney DJ had no idea who you were until I told him. Egos aside, I am done with this topic - it isn't worth wasting my time. |

I thought the vent spoof video was amusing, and I'm a ventriloquist. (It's all in good fun and such a niche video anyway.)
For that matter, many of us are quite serious about making sure our shows come across to our audiences as anything but serious. I think it's a great quality to be able to laugh at ourselves from time to time and not take another's efforts at silliness too seriously.

They should have mentioned Kidabra instead of Maher since they also have vent lectures there. I'll ask again... If it were 3 nobody's doing the video...won't it offend anyone? Is it just "suttle humor" because the video was done by big names so to speak. If it were a guy from Mumbai (India) or Bulacan (Philippines) or Magasanakum (Jupiter) who did the video ...will it still be funny and won't offend anyone specially a ventriloquist. Tom, I agree with you, it's a waste of time... I appreciate your input...thanks. John, if by happy chance you go back to this topic and read this...I'd love to know if David knows who Tom Crowl is who happens to be a very busy ventriloquist and well respected by his peers in this branch of entertainment. Does Brad know what Maher is to a lot of vents... if not, then I suppose you ought to give them the same advise you gave us...and please tell them I did not move my lips when I typed this. Wanlu

David did this video also:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4cU0ivVTwo Would magicians be offended? I don't know but it's funny too. Personally I like it not because they are trying to spoof us but rather I see how creative these people can be. Watching that video gives me ideas for my next show program. |

Can't we all just get along?
Ok maybe the term superstar is a bit much for one guy who has traveled the world and seen by millions of peopl both live and on TV, the other has worked, repeatedly for such Superstars like Susan Sarandan, and some musician who calls himself "The Boss" My 2 worthless cents
