Does anyone know what the whistle, that makes the sound of a deflating balloon, is called? It is the one DC used just before doing Airtight.
Thanks in advance.

It's called a squeaker.

Ok. But not any squeeker, right? There are those which are palmed and others which you put in the mouth. I want the latter. The first one makes more of a sound like a squeeking toy.

I buy the squeakers (the type meant to be palmed) that most magic shops stock and simply remove the tiny piece that actually squeaks and use it by placing it in my mouth.
They are fairly inexpensive and reuseable anyway. Hope this helps.

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean?
Also, does anyone know whether the mosquito whistle is the one that is also used for the sound of a fly?

Doc Eason sells a book on his website on all kinds of tricks and bits with the squeaker gimmick....it's called "The Art of Public Squeaking"...
I currently use them in my Cups and Balls routine as taught by David Williamson. Michael |

I think niva was originally asking about the "Swiss Bird Warbler." Dan Garrett has written a book on using this device called "Squeekeasy."

Niva, I Think it's called a "raspberry whistle".
I don't have a solution, but I admire the problem.

Another question. How do you use a squeeker? With what do you use it and for what effect?

Well, Niva
One idea would be to "squeak" when you press your finger on one ball (Cups & Balls or Sponge Ball Routine), while the other one doesn't. Then the second one squeaks and the first one doesn't. You tell the spectator to press the first ball, it squeaks. Then press it again, it doesn't. You press your nose...it squeaks. I think you get the idea, now. Comedy stuff! Doug |

Yes I knew about that. But what other fun things do you do with your squeeker.
I once saw a magician pressing the buttons on a mobile phone and they squeaked. It was hilarious considering that the mobile phone was a spectator's.

Sometimes at the RenFaire I'll just wander around with a palmed squeaker, making noise with each step. Once I know I've got *someone* paying attention, I look up at that person, shake my head a little and mutter, "Mice..."
And of course, a palmed squeaker is priceless when messing around with spring animals (Hey! My 50th post! A millstone!) (uh... milestone.)

Go to a pet store and you can buy a dog toy for about $3 with four in it.

Try a petstore. Dogs like to chew rubber toys that have squeakers in them.

mosquito whistle. This is the one to be used in the mouth.
Swiss Warblers takes a bit of practice and it is very loud.

My book "Squeakeasy" (published by Picadilly Books, Boulder, CO) contains lots of bits of business with a squeaker. The advantage of the Swiss Bird Warbler is that you can make different pitches of notes, sustain a note for a long time, and 'bend' the tone like a harmonica to change the pitch of the squeak. I also perform my entire show with one in my mouth, so that I can use it at any point. (This is useful because I may think of a new idea with it on the spur of the moment. Of course, the secret is to use it VERY sparingly!)
Unfortunately, the good Swiss Bird Warblers (as made in Japan) have not been made for over 10 years. I have stockpiled enough to last me for my personal performances for the next 10 years, at least. (Sorry to be such a hoarder, but I feel 'naked' without one.) I have seen a new warbler now being sold by Loftus International, so give them a try.

Do you mean you can talk normally with one in the mouth?
And is your book about this type of mouh squeaker or the hand held one? From my research I found three books about squeakers. The first is Dan Garrett's, the Second is by Doc Eason and the third by Doc Wayne.

Ivan |
