This was in 1989 on my first trip to Los Angeles.
In fact, I was flying via Chicago. I had flown to Chicago to meet Ed Marlo, when I arrived in Chicago, I learned that Marlo had been admitted into hospital. I spent the most miserable week in Chicago but I was grateful to meet Eugene Burger and Don Alan. When I arrived at The Magic Castle and began my performance there it was a dream come true. My performance was fine in retrospect but it was a bigger thrill to meet Dai Vernon and have a conversation with him about Nate Leipzig and Houdini. The week that I was working, Martin Nash worked the late show slot and I performed in the early show so I got to see Martin Nash work every night for a week and session with him late into the wee hours. Martin Nash was a sensational artist and perform Larry Jennings for five hours. Larry Jennings came to my hotel and we discussed a lot of thing some of which I have on video from that night. Let me state right here that Larry Jennings and Martin Nash were two awesome cardmen and It was a privilege to spend time with them both when they were in their prime. It would be fourteen years since my first visit before I would return to The Magic Castle, this video clip was shot on my return in 2003: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeyD0cgHLQY&feature=channel I want to thank my friend Whit Haydn and his wife Nancy for hosting my visit on several occasions. Whit and I have worked back to back on my visit and we always have great time. Also, my friend Shaena Engle was the inspirational source for my return visit in 2003. Shaena had visited London the year before and we met at The Magic Circle. She encouraged me to make the trip to hollywood and perform again at The Magic Castle. I have try to return to the Magic Castle as often as I can, I plan to return next year. Thanks for asking Mike
