Penguinmagic.com sells the refills for blue back TA too. You can compare prices if you want.

I have noticed 2 different backs on the TA card. One has the white mark (shadow) left after the angel is moved and on the other the angel is totally gone from it's original position. Are these 2 different styles of gaffs or has someone modified the original one?? I kind of like the idea of the white shadow left after the angel is moved but do not know where to purchase if it is available.

Forgot to tell this cool little story in my last post: I had recently noticed that a good friend of mine had a blue bike pack at his house. I immediately thought of TA. Next time I went over to his house, I was sure to use his deck and I was ready for TA this time. It really fried him coming from his deck!! Used the old hindu force and he never suspected a thing. He told me the next day he examined that card half of the night trying to figure out how I "Moved that thing". I left the card with him and he shows it to everyone that comes by. Great moment for me...

I love TA. Always get a gr8 response! But with the spectators rubbing on it all the time, I don't know how much longer it will last! lol

How to get the white shadow is explained in True Astonishments, I'm not sure if it is covered in the written instructions.
I don't recall it being discussed in the instructions but I will check again. Kudos for using the borrowed deck. Very nice. The handling of TA taught on True Astonishments allows the spectator to select the card by pointing to the back of the card. This makes it more impressive (in my opinion) than using a hindu shuffle where they don't see the back of the card. Thanks for the Kudo. It was so impromptu he did not expect a thing. I was just fiddling with the cards and he said "show me something". He never expected an effect like that. I have been very tempted to get the True Astonishments set just for those little nuances that you mentioned. I may have seen the touch you spoke of on the Wayne Houchin performance...very impressive. Thanks, Mike |

It's called Wichita Slip, very good sleight but need a good MD, which is fairly easy. Or you can do what I do, Balducci Force using a double back. Or go with the simplest, Hindu.
I think having a white space where the angel was, is a very good one. It looks like somehow we force the angel away from their spot. I need a good patter for Skywriter and perhaps if you have any good patter for TA, I hope you want to share it with me either here or via PM.

Making that white space the way it looks in TA - in the performance - is hard! I paused the DVD during the performance and tried to copy it but my white space wasn't as good. The white space that Wayne has looks so good - it looks exactly like the shape of an angel. I wish you could buy a gaff with the white space!

From Card-Shark "Joshua Jay will move over to Phoenix Decks..."
I just saw a Joshua Jay lecture last night and he used the Phoenix cards most or all of the time. I can't say for sure. However, I have some Phoenix decks so I noticed right away when he began to use them. He did a lot with them so this does seem to be true for Joshua Jay. |

The trick is, ofcourse, still great without the white spot, and that's how I do it. But the white spot - if it's a well-made white spot - adds to the effect.

ANOTHER VERSION OF TWIGHLIGHT ANGELS?
Besides the gaff showing the angel's shadow and the gaff showing NO SHADOW, I have plenty of gaffs that have 4 angels, not just 2. They are also the same face value as any other Twighlight Angel produced by Paul Harris. Is this a DIFFERENT TRICK? If not, how would it work? The angels are on top right and bottom left corners (meaning not mirror appropriate). If it is a different trick could someone reference a title to me? |

Well, if you could attach a picture of it here, it would be more helpful.
Anyway, there is a trick called "Angel" from Ultragaff Deck. You have to set up the gaff cards into the deck, pick your best move or sleight. So in the eyes of the spectator is like: they pick a random card, you bring their attention to the back design with four angels, one at each corner. Then you suddenly move them one by one to a single corner. Ending is four angels in one corner and it's still their chosen card. It's a good effect, if you can convince them with the sleight. However, I'm not sure if it's the same gaff you have. Send or attach the picture, then many of us would surely be able to help you.

Qua-Fiki made a variation of his "Matrix Mix" effect from The Wizards' Journal #23. "Matrix Mix" uses both cards and coins in a Matrix routine, where the coins assemble under one card and the card designs do the same. One version he made works with Jokers, similar to Ton Onasaka's Bicycle Built for Five, but in his case it is Bicycle Built for Four and the Jokers vanish from three of the cards to appear as four Jokers on one Bicycle on the card under which the four coins assemble for Matrix. Well, recently, he did the same thing with the Angels on the backs of the cards, since he is a big fan of Paul Harris' Twilight Angels. He printed cards on which one of the Angels on the back is gone (leaving behind only the bicycle), and another card on which four Angels cavort together at one end of the card, with the bottom Angel looking mystified as to how they got there. The faces of the cards are random spot cards so as to not make the spectators suspicious that anything will happen to the angels on the backs. Now when he finishes Matrix, showing all four coins under one card, he turns the cards over to show one angel missing from the back of each of three cards, and on turning over the fourth card, shows where they all ended up having a party.
He currently uses this at the end of a card routine that begins with Twilight Angels, then goes through other card effects having nothing to do with the Angels. He places the deck off to the side while he transitions into some coin effects. Then he deals off four cards to perform matrix with the outcome as described above for his finale. This effect is NOT included in his e-Book, but I mention it to show you ways you can continue invoking the Angels after Twilight and on into Happy Hour.
