Can some one point me in the direction of good books that have effects utilizing a memorized deck without any special stack. I am working on the quick stack from Doug Dyment's Mindsights. I have done a search on memorized decks and could not separate the special stack's like Aronson's from generalized effects.
Thanks, Michael |

Most mem deck effects are not stack specific. Aronson's Bound To Please and Tamariz' Mnemonica have enough material that can be done with any stack to warrant the investment. Also see the Mike Close Workers series-excellent. Dennis Loomis' site has good info as well.

Mnemonica is (very approximately) 75% routines that can be performed with any memorised deck and 25% material that is specific to the Tamariz stack.
Michael Close's Workers 5 has a large chapter of material that is mostly non stack-specific and practical for the real world, though some of the Jazz "produce any named card" stuff does take advantage of the positions of a certain commonly named cards in the Aronson Stack. Darwin Ortiz' Scams and Fantasies contains a couple of Memdeck routines for any stack, but memorised deck work is not a major focus of the book - I wouldn't buy it just as a source of memorised deck material. Of the Aronson books, Bound to Please has several good routines that can be performed with any stack but much of the Memdeck material is concerned with learning his specific stack. Simply Simon is the best Aronson book for general Memdeck routines for which any stack can be used - and contains some brilliant techniques. The majority of the Memdeck routines in Try the Impossible are specific to the Aronson stack. I'd say that the major books for someone who has already learned a memorised stack (that isn't Simon Aronson's) are Mnemonica by Juan Tamariz, Simply Simon by Simon Aronson, and Workers 5 by Michael Close. The other Aronson books are also worth reading. Simon Aronson may still have a free ebook on the memorised deck on his website. |

Also, Eric Mead's The Tangled Web and Mike Close's Closely Guarded Secrets (e-book).
There are some beautiful effects with a Mem Deck on both of Michael Vincent's new Alakazam sets. |

Michael, a search in this forum (Shuffled not Stirred) for "stack independent" produces 53 postings/threads. Searching the entire Café with the same input, produces 122 references, as of this date. If you scan through them you will find names of tricks, books, dvds, etc.
Like several others have mentioned, MOST memorized deck tricks/effects will work with any stack. |
