I like to play around with sculpting various heads, and have even cast a few into latex heads. In doing so I've discovered the need to predict how the mouth will look when closed, when making the initial sculpture. So how do you do it? All your puppets look great whether the mouth is open or shut. Is it just experience or do you have a technique?

Michael, Lots of techniques developed over the years... someday I hope to write a book. Once you rough sculpt it, you can cut the lower jaw off and simulate it's closing, then you will see what what needs correction to make it work.

Thanks. I tried that on my first one, but I still managed to make the jaw jut out too far. I guess I'll just keep practising until that book comes out.
