Does someone know what the oldest reference is of the Princess Card Trick? In which book was this trick first published? And who invented it?

My memory is hazy on this but I think it was originally called the Prince's Card Trick and got lost in translation, originally marketed by Henry Hardin in the early 1900s. I think this was related to me by David Britland a few years ago so he might be the person the ask, his wonderful blog is a must-read http://www.davidbritland.com

Here's the info from the entry in Whaley's The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Magic:
Invented by American magician “Henry Hardin” (E.A. Parsons) by 1905 in his Memorandum of Magic catalog. According to T. A. Waters this was “a later development of” Alexander Herrmann’s Egyptian Pocket. REF: Annemann in Jinx #97 (1940), 596; Hilliard (1909), 67; Stanyon in Magic (Nov 1911), 15; 1988 Waters, 269. Hope that helps. |
