I will add my vote for Bob White's dvd. I own his and both Ammar dvds and think these are a great start and would recommend both. Ammar covers a lot more material, while Bob White sticks with the basics but goes into a lot more detail which can be really helpful when starting.
Overall, I would recommend White first, so you can get the basic moves down with the added detail in the instruction and then add the Ammar dvd's if you feel the need for more. If I had to pick only one, I would personally go with White, he will teach you fewer moves, but you will have what you need and you will learn details of good technique that others overlook. |

Ive been looking to get into the Cups and Balls scene, but I'm a little discouraged at the prices of the equipment- Am I perhaps looking in the wrong places, or looking at expert cups when I should be using something a little less? I've been look at Rings and Things and a few other sites

You are looking at the higher-end stuff. I learned on a set of Uday aluminum cups that cost me like $12 from penguinmagic. I believe the copper ones run about $40 but would be a fine start. Both Morrissey cups and Bazaar de Magia cups are nice middle of the road sets, though my understanding of the Morrissey cups is that the saddle isn't particularly deep. Once you get familiar with the mechanics you can think of going more expensive. I myself am waiting (impatiently I must confess) on cups from Brett Sherwood to make it through US customs. |

I just received a set of cups from Brett Sherwood in the last week. Very pleased with what I received. Now to spend some quality time working with them. |

They usually go used between 45-70 dollars, but are far better than the uday cups and will give you a really great first set of cups. They are great cups for what they are and will be well worth the extra few dollars of any of the "cheap cup" options. Also, don't get aluminum cups... you will hate them within a week. In my experience, save for slightly longer and get something that will last longer. The penguin cups will do that for you. After that you and learn the basics, if you want to get into the great quality line of cups, then you could look at RNT2 or Sherwood, etc etc. Have fun and practice practice practice. The lessons and techniques you learn going through a cups routine will stay with you throughout you performing career. Learning to correctly and efficiently perform a cups routine is very valuable, it is also fun. Best, E |

As I am not a street performer, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Gazzo's Street Cups and Balls DVD was extremely helpful to my work with cups and balls. There is a great deal of emphasis on misdirection, covering strategies not mentioned in other cups and balls dvd's that have been recommended. There is of course also much to learn about showmanship and presentation, and even very practical matters pertaining to equipment. Highly recommended.
