PPete, I know for a long time you booked the talent for the annual IBM Convention. Any stories you would like to share. Any acts that were a surprise or failure? Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Yes, I was the talent booker for 11 years. I quit when the politicians started to interfere. Some of the board members started circulating nasty letters full of lies. I called 'em on it to their faces in a board meeting and then resigned.
Let me think on this and see if I can find some of my notes.

Pete, by the time we got to Oakland you had pulled out of the committee. I quit after the Oakland convention. Maybe I knew at the time but I don't remember. Did you book the talent for Oakland??? It was a strange convention from the inside because of the "politics" as you correctly say.
Let me say, because of Pete's eye for talent I got to work with some super magicians during my five year stint as Hotel SHows Director which incidently Pete hired me to do. I consider myself extremely lucky to have had that opportunity. It would be great to see a list of all the talent Pete has discovered including NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

Yassireee... Jimmie Johnson... To enlighten folks, I was covering off-road racing and spotted this teen racing in 'ultrlites' and he was unbeatable... I had never seen a kid so smooth, so fast.
I got a call from the then head of racing for General Motors asking about him. I said, "SIGN HIM UP." Which they eventually did. And a few years later, he is now the first racing in HISTORY to win Four Cup Titles in Four years. Back to mojo... I DID NOT book Oakland... but boy did I want to. After all, it was my hometown and the shows were going to be at the beautifully restored Paramount Theatre. It's not for me to say, but I will... the shows were a disaster. Made me cry.

Pete, would you mind elaborating on some of the talent that you brought into the fore via the IBM Annual convention. You made breaks for a lot of magicians.

I'll have to go back and dig out the show list files, but the one most prominent was NATHAN Burton.
I watched him in the preliminaries for the Junior contestants and the judges didn't place him. I went backstage and told him to NOT PACK UP that I wanted him on the final Gala Show. Needless to say, it showed, to me, that the judges don't always know a commercial act. Anyway Nathan killed on the show and now has his own review show in LAS VEGAS.
